When In Sri Lanka : EP 13: Colourful Lankan Buses 🚌
In Sri Lanka, buses are more than just a way to get from A to B - they’re moving canvases. Hand-painted with vibrant colours, chrome details, LED lights, religious symbols and bold names, each one reflects the personality and pride of its owner. No two buses are ever quite the same.
Step aboard and you’ll find music playing, conductors calling out destinations, and windows framing everything from bustling city streets to rolling tea hills. It’s fast-paced, unforgettable and an experience every visitor should try at least once. Government buses are instantly recognisable in red, while privately operated buses are famous for their colourful designs and individual flair.
For us, they’re part of the everyday rhythm of Sri Lanka - chaotic, colourful and full of character.
Have you travelled on a Sri Lankan bus before?
