What does a wine list curator reach for when choosing a bottle for himself?
For Bjoern, our Stage22 Bar & Restaurant wine specialist, one of his current favourites is MDG #9 Gewürztraminer by Weingut Eymann.
Produced from Gewürztraminer grapes grown in the Mandelgarten vineyard in Germany’s Pfalz region, this is no ordinary white wine. The grapes are fermented on their skins, bringing more colour, texture and character to the wine, while the Solera method blends various wines from different years.
The result is an expressive and intensely aromatic wine, with notes of rose, lychee, orange and gentle spice. Only 600 bottles were produced, so this is also a particularly rare find.
In Bjoern’s words, the wine is simply “intensely aromatic and fun in a glass.”
