A few highlights from a wonderful opening evening for A Figure of Abiding Charm, a duo exhibition by Mouna Ahizoune and Hamza Marmouche on show at IZZA until the 15th January.
Bringing together newly presented works spanning performance, moving image, sculpture, painting and drawing, this exhibition explores the work that goes into a gesture, an object or a place, and how much of it remains unseen.
MOUNA AHIZOUNE
Drawing inspiration from the women of her Middle Atlas village, Ahizoune explores themes of memory, resilience, labour and transformation. Through powerful performances, hand-built ceramics and underwater films, her work reflects on the repetitive gestures of everyday life, the traces they leave on the body and the relationship between humans and nature.
HAMZA MARMOUCHE
Marmouche takes a playful and experimental approach to painting and sculpture, exploring what happens when materials are given the freedom to shape the creative process. His interactive wooden paintings invite viewers to rearrange compositions, while his welded steel sculptures proudly reveal the cuts, marks and imperfections of their making.
Two distinct artistic practices, brought together through a shared exploration of process, transformation and the stories materials can tell.
Curated by Aicha Benazzouz and Natasha Cox, this powerful exhibition marks the launch of the second edition of our Associate Artist Programme (IAAP), Growing a Field - a new chapter focused on nurturing, supporting and creating visibility for a new generation of artists working in Morocco.
A huge thank you to everyone involved!
