Dinner at Three Camel Lodge begins long before the food arrives.

The Bulagtai Restaurant sits inside an oversized ger modeled on those used by the great Khans of Mongolia, its ceiling painted in extraordinary detail above every table. Handmade buuz dumplings, slow-cooked tsuivan noodles, stone-roasted barbecue, vegetables harvested that morning from nearby organic farms, dairy sourced directly from local nomadic families.

The Thirsty Camel Bar, rated among the world's finest wh***ey bars by Forbes, is waiting when dinner is done.

Meet our final artist in residence of the season: 𝑩. 𝑩𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒏 🤎

Since 1995, Bayanduuren has worked exclusively in felt, a material inseparable from Mongolian nomadic life. The wool comes from animals that have grazed these plains for centuries. The techniques have been passed through generations of herding families. Thirty years of practice has given her a relationship with this material that runs very deep.

At Three Camel Lodge she is creating ten new felt works depicting the natural wonder of the Gobi and its people, while offering guests felt painting, jewelry, and souvenir workshops to take a piece of this place home with them.

We’re lucky to have her here with us until September 15.

Some conversations need the right setting. The Gobi Desert has a way of making sure nothing important gets left unsaid.

Three Camel Lodge was proud to host the Beyond Green Global Leadership Summit this season, welcoming hospitality leaders, innovators, and changemakers from around the world for a week centred around one theme: Creating a Lasting Legacy.

As a founding member of Beyond Green, this felt like a deeply meaningful moment for our team. Watching global leaders gather in a place we have spent over two decades working to protect, discussing conservation, cultural stewardship, and the future of sustainable travel, reminded us exactly why we built this lodge the way we did.

The Gobi offered its own lesson, as it always does. Lasting progress starts with a deep understanding of place, people, and purpose 🪷

The Gobi is one of the most extraordinary places on earth to get on a bike 🚲

Not because of the trails, though the terrain delivers in ways that genuinely surprise people. Because of the scale. Out there on two wheels, the desert stretching in every direction with nothing between you and the horizon, something shifts. It gets quiet in your head. The Gobi has a way of doing that, and mountain biking just gets you into it faster.

Renata and her conference group spent seven nights across Mongolia, three of them with us deep in Ömnögovi Province, an hour and a half beyond the last paved road. They rode camels and horses across the Gobi, rolled down sand dunes, watched local school children perform Mongolian stories through music and dance, and learned that every ger doorway requires a duck.

That last one gets everyone at least once.

What stays with us most from Renata's words is this: that across vast landscapes and very different stays, her group felt a genuine connection to the nomadic way of life. That is exactly what we set out to give every guest who finds their way here.

"𝐀 𝐛𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐱𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬." That is how Katie Lockhart described a day at Three Camel Lodge in the New Zealand Herald, and we think she got it exactly right 🐪

Katie rode camels at Moltsog Els, sat with a local herding family over fermented camel milk and homemade arkhi, hiked to petroglyphs at Havtsgait Mountain, and ended one evening at a private three-course dinner overlooking the Flaming Cliffs as the sky changed colour around her. She also found a dinosaur fossil with our guide, which is the kind of afternoon that is very difficult to top.

Growing vegetables in the Gobi Desert should not be possible. Our kitchen team would respectfully disagree 🫛

Last week we completed our first harvest of the season: beetroot, red radishes, salad leaves, cucumbers, and spinach, all grown right here in one of the driest places on earth. Fresh batches of lettuce, radishes, and cucumbers are already in the ground and coming up well. Our next major harvest in mid-August will bring watermelon, cherry tomatoes, and bell peppers to the kitchen.

What goes into the ground in the Gobi ends up on your plate that same evening. It is one of those small details that changes everything about the way a meal tastes.

And just like that, you wonder why it took you so long 🐪

The ger is warmer than you expected. The sky is bigger than you imagined. The camels are exactly as wonderful as they look in photos. And somewhere between the Flaming Cliffs at sunset and your first night under the Gobi stars, Mongolia stops being a place on your list and starts being a place you already miss.

Some of the most memorable hours at Three Camel Lodge happen at a workshop table 🪡

Felt-making has been central to nomadic Mongolian life for thousands of years, the wool coming from animals that have grazed this steppe for just as long. Buddhist bracelet and necklace making carries its own quiet significance, each bead and knot rooted in a spiritual tradition that has shaped Mongolian culture across centuries. And the soap-making workshop brings the same hands-on intimacy, a craft made entirely from ingredients found close to the land.

Guests leave with something handmade and an understanding of our home that no excursion could quite replicate.
