There is a story behind this year’s festive theme, Havana Nights.

It begins with the legend of a Portuguese Caravela said to have disappeared in the Indian Ocean while sailing east with valuable cargo on board. That centuries-old mystery became the starting point for our festive story of lost treasure, rum beneath the waves and a journey that eventually finds its way to Reethi.

Here, the story moves from legend into experience. Days unfold with ocean adventures, family activities, wellness experiences and time by the lagoon. As the sun goes down, the atmosphere changes. Lanterns glow beneath the palms, music carries across the beach, and the story continues through rum discoveries, Havana-inspired cocktails, festive dining, live performances and gatherings by the sea.

Havana Nights also connects the legend with Reethi’s own relationship with rum, including experiences inspired by the resort’s signature ocean-aged spirit. From there, the celebrations build towards 31 December's, when the story reaches its final chapter with music, fire, fireworks and New Year’s Eve beneath the stars.

This festive season, Reethi is taking on a little Havana spirit.
Expect warm island evenings, Christmas celebrations, live music, signature rum experiences and a New Year’s Eve worth dressing up for. Havana Nights brings together some of the season’s best moments, with plenty happening in between.

There are more than a thousand islands in the Maldives. Very few sit where ours does.

Baa Atoll is the only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the country, recognised in 2011 for reefs that rank among the richest in the Indian Ocean. Around 250 species of coral and 1,200 species of fish live in these waters, alongside turtles, reef sharks and the manta rays that have made this atoll famous around the world.

And Fonimagoodhoo, our island, sits at its gateway. Beside us lies the Vandhoomafaru channel, where the open ocean pours into the atoll and brings the life of the deep with it. It means our guests do not travel to find the wonders of Baa Atoll. They are already here, passing by the island, gathering on a reef that begins a few metres from the sand.

This is the first chapter of a four-part film series about the island we call home. Its geology, its forest, its reef, and the people who have been returning to it for over twenty years.
