Just a 2 minute walk from our guesthouse, ocean enthusiasts can find Naifaru's house reef. Whilst our excursions are one of the best ways to explore Lhaviyani's reefs, our island of Naifaru still boasts this beautiful pocket of ocean biodiversity 🪸

Early this morning, conditions were near perfect. Visibility was good and many colourful fish species could be seen, including these gorgeous white collar butterflyfish 🐠

If you were thinking of visiting the Maldives, why not consider exploring what local island life has to offer without missing out on the beauty under the waves 🌊

Maldives Teen Programme August 2026 🌴🌊☀️🪸🐟

As we continue to reflect on this year's teen programmes, we think of our August group brought to us in collaboration with working abroad 🐬

Most from the UK, the group had solidified strong bonds and friendships by the end of the trip which we hope will likely carry on for many years to come.

The group faced centre duties at Atoll Marine Centre with enthusiasm and showed great willingness to get involved with all the centre had to offer, as well as working incredibly well as a team when cleaning our local and uninhabited island beaches 🧽

Upcycling discarded ghost net into bracelets to sell at the Marine Centre was also something many of the group enjoyed. Participants were also taught some more traditional crafts too - how to weave fish and necklaces from palm leaves 🌴

After a fish ID presentation given by our partner dive centres dive instructor, the group were set to snorkel the reefs of Lhaviyani Atoll and identify many of the common species we see amongst the corals. Some members of the group were lucky to see feather tail and porcupine rays, as well as a wild hawksbill turtle! 🐠

Our island scavenger hunt brought us very fun pictures of the group. Scroll to see a particularly fun image one team took after prompted to take a picture with a fish at the island harbour! 🐟

Whether they were swimming in the ocean or toasting marshmallows by a beach bonfire, the group always looked out for one another. As this was many of theirs first solo trips, they did very well and hope to maybe see some of them again for Atoll Volunteer's over 18 volunteering programme in the future! ☀️

A big big thanks to our partner, working abroad, for their strong communication and assistance throughout the planning and delivery of the programme 🌟

Maldives Teen Programme July 2026 🌴🐟🪸

As the summer holidays in Europe draw to a close, we are reflecting on this year's summer teen programmes which we ran for the first time this July and August.

Our July group were a joy to host. Despite being slightly unlucky with the weather at the beginning of their time with us, they remained optimistic and enjoyed our water activities all the more when conditions improved 🤿

The group learned about marine conservation in the Maldives and got involved in centre duties at Marine Centre, the islands sea turtle rehabilitation centre. 🐢

Their hands-on effort extended beyond the centres walls, as they collected seagrass for the centres resident green sea turtle, Hope, and completed a large scale beach clean on an uninhabited island. This experience proved invaluable when they later served participated in outreach through another beach clean during the Marine Centre's marine holiday camp for young children.🐬

Snorkelling trips revealed vibrant coral reefs and after exploring, teens enjoyed games of volleyball and catch 🏐

Cultural immersion to island life was also a big part of the trip. A local cook visited the guesthouse to teach the group how to make a traditional Maldivian breakfast, and a local dance class was arranged💃

When each day concluded, there was often a chance of a beautiful Maldivian sunset to close the day on a good note. 🌅

We would like to thank our partner, for all their help and support throughout the programme and look forward to hosting many more exciting trips with them in the future.

Last month we were joined by Julia, Mark, Freddie and Archie from the UK. They participated in our family volunteering program in collaboration with Atoll Marine Conservation.

During their time with us, they got stuck in with all aspects of centre duties, including building the team an upcycled syphon out of materials around the centre. The Marine Centre team have since found this a great help when cleaning the turtle tanks 🐢

Afternoons were spent participating in uninhabited island beach cleans, fish ID surveys and many snorkels over Lhaviyani's reefs. They even had a day trip to Baa Atolls Hanifaru Bay, to see the annual Manta aggregation there!

Being keen divers, they also took the opportunity to complete a wall dive with Aqua Dive and Watersports.

Overall, it was a very eventful trip that we hope they enjoyed - we certainly enjoyed hosting them!! 🌊

Last month the island of Naifaru celebrated Eid ✨

The island was abuzz with activity as the local people came together to celebrate.

With cultural dances, team sports and unique shows, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Consider visiting Naifaru to experience an authentic Maldives.
