If youre not especially into birds, nows the time to stop, relax, and take notice of the little wild things around you. Trust me, youll feel so much more relaxed and at peace 😇

An introduction to the Bua Monkeys: now, I'm not usually a big fan of velvet monkeys. If anyone has ever been to the wildlife centre in Lilongwe or the Sunbird Livingstone in Salima, you'll know that they are an absolute pain and have become addicted to stealing sugar and other food 😆. However, our monkeys at Bua River Lodge, call me biased, but they are just so sweet!! Thats why its so important that they never get food from us. They are often pottering around near the lodge, in the trees, eating fruit and seeds. Unbothered.

But the past 2 days, a fish eagle has come to perch across the river bank from us and the monkeys all go into high alert! The biggest male rushes up a tree in front of the lodge and starts alarm calling, and then the whole troop gather, huddled together, on the railings around the restaurant.

At first I thought it was just a convenient place to gather, but its happened a few times now, and I can see that they are actually coming to us for protection! I guess they know the fish eagle wont come near the lodge and the people!

I almost feel part of the troop!
So come up to the lodge soon, and join the troop with me please 😆 We might need reinforcements 😅
