Tahun 2026 menandakan ulang tahun ke-19 pengiktirafan Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark sebagai UNESCO Global Geopark yang pertama di Asia Tenggara. Sambutan ini mencerminkan komitmen berterusan dalam memelihara warisan geologi, biodiversiti, budaya dan pembangunan mampan demi manfaat generasi kini dan akan datang.

550 Million Years in the Making, 19 Years in Celebration

Today, we celebrate 19 years of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark — a journey that began with a vision to protect, understand and share the stories written in the rocks, landscapes and communities of Langkawi.

For over half a billion years, nature has shaped the islands of Langkawi, creating some of the oldest geological formations in Southeast Asia. For the past 19 years, Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark has continued to transform this extraordinary Earth heritage into opportunities for conservation, education and sustainable development.

From the ancient sandstone cliffs of Machinchang to the majestic karst landscapes of Kilim, every geosite tells a story of Earth's deep history and humanity's responsibility to safeguard it for future generations.

As we mark this milestone, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our communities, partners, researchers, guides, educators, visitors and all who have contributed to the success of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark.

Together, we celebrate not only 19 years of achievement, but also 550 million years of Earth's history that continue to inspire us.
