Graceful, curious, and unmistakably African 🦒

Today we celebrate the giraffe and the wild spaces like the Chobe Riverways which they call home. Often seen browsing quietly along the riverbanks or moving gracefully through the trees, giraffes remind us how important protected wilderness areas remain for Africa’s wildlife.

To travel with purpose means helping preserve these landscapes for future generations to experience and appreciate.

How do we explain what it's like to be fishing one of Africa’s great river systems? 🎣

Private guide. Private boat. Endless Chobe waterways to explore. What words would you use?

Some people instantly make you feel at home - and for Ichingo, that person is Kennedy.

As Front of House Manager and the familiar face welcoming guests off the boats each day, Kennedy has become an unforgettable part of the experience here. Known for his infectious laugh, warm hospitality and ever-present smile, he sets the tone for the personal style of safari that makes the lodge so special.

Whether he’s greeting you with an ice-cold drink after an afternoon on the river, mixing signature cocktails on the deck, or sharing stories beneath the trees as the fire crackles nearby, Kennedy brings an energy that guests remember long after they leave the Chobe.

Born and raised in the region, Kennedy’s connection to the river runs deep. Guests are often entertained by his legendary childhood story about climbing a tree and accidentally leaving his father behind during a hippo encounter - a tale that somehow gets even better around the bar.

For many visitors, Kennedy is more than part of the team. He becomes part of the memories they take home. Leave him some love in the comments below!

Birding from the river offers an entirely different perspective to a traditional safari vehicle.

There are no dusty roads, engine noise, or bumpy tracks distracting from the experience. Instead, you drift through the waterways, moving slowly enough to observe the flash of a malachite kingfisher, the precision of an African skimmer in flight, or a fish eagle calling overhead.

Because so much birdlife congregates along the riverbanks and channels, sightings are often remarkably close to the boat, making photography easier and more rewarding.

Reflections on the water, open sightlines and eye-level viewing create incredible opportunities for keen birders and photographers alike.

At Ichingo Chobe River Lodge, your private guide and tender boat allow you to spend as much time as you’d like following the moments that matter to you most.

For us, caring for the Chobe region isn’t a once-a-year conversation - it’s part of daily life 🌍

From growing fresh produce in our on-site garden to composting organic waste and using biodegradable cleaning products, many of the small decisions made at Ichingo are designed to reduce our impact on this extraordinary ecosystem we call home.

Beyond the lodge, we're proud to support surrounding communities through initiatives such as boreholes for clean drinking water and community food gardens, while our strict catch-and-release fishing policy helps protect the future of the Chobe’s fish populations.

This , we’re reminded that preserving places like this starts with conscious choices - both big and small.

June has arrived!

And with it comes cooler mornings, clear skies and some of the year’s best conditions for photographers yea round.

As the dry season settles in, wildlife begins concentrating along the riverbanks - creating incredible opportunities for close-up sightings from the water. Soft light, calm conditions and less summer haze make this an especially rewarding time for wildlife and bird photography alike.

Fishing conditions are also ramping up, with tigerfish becoming increasingly active as water temperatures cool. With private boats and flexible guiding included in every stay, guests can spend more time targeting productive channels and rapids at their own pace.

For travellers seeking quieter safari moments, exceptional wildlife viewing, and immersive photographic opportunities, June is a beautiful time to experience the Chobe River. We look forward to welcoming our guests visiting in the month ahead!
