Before you see the herd, you often see the giraffe.
Across the reserve, they become the landscape’s tallest point of reference, browsing above the canopy and visible across distances where other animals disappear into the vegetation.
From a game drive vehicle, a giraffe on the horizon tells you something before you arrive: the vegetation supports height, and there's something worth slowing down for.
Their presence changes how you read the landscape. They stand quietly, moving with calm precision, while the reserve seems to organise around them.
On World Giraffe Day, we pause to appreciate one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the Namibian wild.
