Vreugde Guest Farm

Vreugde Guest Farm Vreugde is small family-run Guest Farm, just 30 minutes' drive from Etosha NP, and located on a working cattle and sheep farm. www.vreugdeguestfarm.com

Vreugde Guest Farm is a family-run guest farm, and working cattle and sheep farm, located just 45km south of Etosha National Park, in northern Namibia. The farm is owned by Danie and Elsie Brand, and is run with the help of their son Danie, and his wife, Rachel. The guest farm offers comfortable, affordable accommodation, with delicious food, a warm welcome, and friendly hosts. We like to share with our guests our knowledge and love of Namibia, Etosha and it's wildlife.

Namibia has a number of options for generating energy for its domestic use and for exports. Fossil fuels, green energy, and nuclear power all have pros and cons. Which options are best?

Every afternoon, we count our herd of Damara-mix sheep back into their kraal. This is how it's done.

The fires in Etosha NP have indeed been absolutely devastating, resulting no doubt in many deaths and injuries to animals (especially those too small, young, or slow to escape the flames), as well as destroying a large amount of grazing, but herewith a few points to consider as visitors to Etosha:
- the fire is now out, and it is completely safe to visit the Park
- the worst of the fire damage is in the western part of the Park, so visits to the southern and eastern parts of Etosha are still absolutely possible and recommended, because...
- the animals are now concentrating in the unaffected areas, so animal viewing is actually easier than usual in these areas
- even without immediate rain, new green shoots will start growing in the next couple weeks in the burnt areas; we are also expecting a reasonably good rainy season.

I like to share photos from our camera traps every now and again as a reminder that even if you don't see them, we do have a good diversity of wildlife on the farm.

And this isn't even all of the small-to-medium mammals - the wild cats didn't show up this time, and we know we have honey badger and striped polecat too. Not to mention the many reptiles: tortoises, monitor lizards, snakes and lizards.
