Dear friends of Rivendell, it is with real sadness that after 19 years, Charlotte and I announce the closure of Rivendell Guest House.

It’s been quite the journey that without your loyal support, we would never have got beyond the first month! We take with us bags full of wonderful & warm memories of our time living and running Rivendell, made special by you, our generous and lovely guests.

Rivendell was an amazing team, and guests always ensured a warm, convivial welcome and fun atmosphere, for which we’ll always be hugely greatful.

On behalf of ourselves and our wonderful staff we would like to thank you one last time for choosing to stay at Rivendell. For any future accommodation bookings you can always contact us at [email protected] where you’ll find Erika waiting to get back to you.

Fantastic news for UK travellers! From this weekend pre-departure tests are no longer required for returning to the UK, no day 2 PCR test & no isolation whilst waiting for the result. Just a travel approved lateral flow test no later than day 2 😁. What are you waiting for?

I wish I was…
a) driving down the M25 in the freezing cold, wondering when the next lockdown is coming
b) climbing ancient sand dunes under vast blue Namibian skies, and looking forward to a sumptuous bush breakfast
France & Germany may not want you right now, but our borders are open, flights are operating, & we can’t think of anything we’d rather have for Christmas than some lovely travellers to share our empty country with!

UK followers, please can you write to your local MP regarding the devestating news that Namibia remains on the travel red list? Below is a suggestion to cut & paste, but please feel free to add your own flourishes! Thank you so much ☺️

Following the devastating news that Namibia remains on the UK’s red list with absolutely no justification or explanation, I am writing to highlight the urgency of this issue. Namibia, South Africa, and indeed the whole region lose millions in tourism revenue each day they stay on the UK’s red list. The UK’s contempt for these countries and refusal to follow the data as promised will result in an economic, social, and conservation meltdown.

Whilst yesterday’s travel changes are welcome, there were many rumours from travel experts, including Paul Charles from the PC Agency who announced the changes on Twitter before government did, that the red list would be slashed by around 50%. Paul Charles and many others also mentioned South Africa and Namibia as specific countries whose data no longer justified their red list status.

Please urgently give the many desperate UK African travel specialists, and the millions of tourism workers in the region, an explanation as to why Namibia and South Africa are still on the red list? We implore the UK government to listen to their increasingly dissatisfied electorate and reduce the red list to those countries which either have high levels of confirmed variants of concern other than Delta, or Covid caseloads higher than the UK.

Please sign this & share if you haven’t already. So many lives & livelihoods are on the line and there is no justification for keeping South Africa or Namibia on the red list. Germany, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, US & more have taken us off their risk lists.

The Government should urgently review its travel policy towards South Africa to ensure it is fully aligned with the latest scientific evidence, and therefore remove South Africa from the travel 'Red List'.

Lufthansa Group’s newest leisure airline, Eurowings Discover, touched down in Namibia for the very first time this Wednesday.

Eurowings Discover operates five weekly connections from Frankfurt to Windhoek in 2021, with return flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. From summer 2022, the leisure carrier will even increase its service to daily flights with three weekly onward tag flights to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
