Today we celebrate the 156th anniversary of Die Port van Cleve🎂

Since 1870, this building has welcomed guests from every walk of life, and this year has been one to remember. We ended 2025 with the grand celebration of our 155th anniversary, where hotel room concerts echoed through the hotel and where we launched our own LEGO brick set. In 2026 we welcomed Bouillon d’Amsterdam and witnessed its success, watched De Blauwe Parade grow into a lively cocktail bar, and opened our doors to the neighbourhood during Open Hotel Week.

Right now, we’re carefully restoring our façade, preserving the wonderful stories of this place for the generations to come.

This year, we’re celebrating a little closer to home. This weekend, our hotel guests can raise a glass to 156 years of history with cake and bubbles on us.

Because after a year like that, some things are simply worth savouring intimately.

Afgelopen weekend mochten wij een bijzondere gast verwelkomen bij Die Port van Cleve🧡

Fien Borremans (12) zet zich in voor stichting Stop Darmkanker en liep afgelopen jaar ook mee met de Antwerp 10 Miles, naast andere acties om geld op te halen voor de stichting. Haar moeder Sanne zet zich net zo hard in, en samen met haar gezin kwam Fien voor een verblijf naar Amsterdam. Hier hebben we hun welverdiend in het zonnetje gezet!

Het gezin verbleef bij Die Port van Cleve, en ‘s avonds werden ze warm ontvangen bij Bouillon d’Amsterdam voor een heerlijk diner.

Samen met Aeon Plaza Hotels vinden we het bijzonder om, samen met partners als Bouillon d’Amsterdam, een steentje te kunnen bijdragen aan een initiatief met zoveel impact. Petje af voor Fien, Sanne en iedereen die zich inzet voor Stopdarmkanker.

Today, on 15/5, we look back at the celebration of our 155th anniversary ✨

An evening where the stories of our historic hotel came to life during an unforgettable evening filled with exclusive hotel room concerts, culinary surprises and hidden experiences throughout the building 🎶

Guests wandered through the hotel discovering performances inspired by different chapters of our history, while our historic bar transformed into a secret bar for the night 🍸

The culinary experience served as a preview of , while a special counting and lottery linked to our famous numbered steaks paid tribute to one of the most iconic traditions in the history of Die Port van Cleve.

The evening also featured the grand reveal of our very own LEGO brick set, inspired by the iconic façade of Die Port van Cleve. Even the goodiebag was designed around the rich history of the hotel, with references to the many stories connected to this special place.

From being home to the very first Heineken brewery, to becoming one of the first bars in Amsterdam with electric lighting, Die Port van Cleve has been part of the city’s story since 1870. Celebrating 155 years surrounded by music, storytelling and so many familiar faces made the night extra special ❤️

Long before King’s Day became a tradition, royal celebrations already lit up the city 👑

In 1874, Die Port van Cleve marked the 25-year reign of King Willem III in a truly remarkable way. The Hulscher brothers built a large wooden structure in front of their beer house and illuminated it with no less than 7500 oil lamps🪔

For three evenings, the building glowed like never before. A striking tribute to the King and a moment that did not go unnoticed in Amsterdam, as the popularity of beer house Die Port van Cleve only grew.

Today, this extraordinary story lives on as one of the room themes at Die Port van Cleve, where history and celebration come together.

At first glance, you see a historic façade in the heart of Amsterdam. But as you take a better look, a special detail reveals itself.

In 2021, following our 150-year anniversary, Die Port van Cleve was awarded the prestigious title of Purveyor to the Dutch Royal Household, known in the Netherlands as “Hofleverancier”. A recognition reserved for companies with a long-standing history of excellence, quality and trust.

Today, the Royal crest is proudly displayed on our façade, a symbol of our heritage and the standards we uphold every single day.

How does a French bouillon fit into a place so deeply rooted in Dutch history? 🤔

At first glance, it might seem like an unexpected match. Die Port van Cleve has proudly celebrated its Dutch heritage for over 150 years, so why a French concept?

The answer lies in our history.

Back in the day, beer house Die Port van Cleve was a place where everyone was welcome, regardless of background or status. Guests gathered at long rows of tables, enjoying honest, comforting dishes at fair prices. Sounds familiar? It is exactly what defines a classic French bouillon.

Around 1900, the Hulscher brothers expanded this idea by opening a French restaurant on the first floor. While the ground floor buzzed with energy, conversation and the unmistakable voice of the Echo, upstairs offered a more refined and elegant dining experience, centered around the French cuisine. A striking contrast within one building.

Bouillon d’Amsterdam brings these two worlds back together.

A tribute to our past, reimagined in the present, and a story we are proud to continue every day.
