How long can you go mountain biking in Alta?

Well, until the snow takes over! And when it does? We just switch to fatbikes. 😉❄️

Alta, Northern Norway, is known for its fantastic mountain biking trails, from flowing forest paths and hidden singletracks to mountain views and trails that take you a little further into the Arctic wilderness.

At GLØD Explorer, we love showing guests some of Alta’s lesser-known trails. And whether you prefer a classic analogue mountain bike (MTB) or a little extra help from an electric mountain bike (e-MTB), there’s an adventure waiting for you.

Our guides know the trails, and we adapt the ride to the group, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery along the way. 🌲

And when winter arrives? The fun doesn’t stop. We bring out the fatbikes and keep exploring Alta’s snowy trails.

We even head out on nighttime fatbike adventures, with the chance of the Northern Lights dancing above us as we ride. Now that’s a pretty special way to experience an Arctic winter! ✨💚

✨ So, you came to Alta to chase the Northern Lights. But what do you do during the day? 🍂

Quite a lot, actually! 😉

Autumn in Alta, Northern Norway, is one of our favourite times to get outside. The forests turn golden, the air gets a little crisper, and there’s still plenty to explore before winter settles in.

Here are a few of our favourite ways to spend an autumn day:

🐾 Take a husky for a hike through the forests and trails around Alta.

🛶 Paddle along the Alta River by canoe, enjoying the autumn colours and a different view of the landscape.

🚵 Head out on an MTB or e-MTB adventure, exploring some of Alta’s lesser-known trails with our guides.

And there’s more to Alta than outdoor adventures!

Visit Alta Museum to discover the region’s fascinating history and UNESCO-listed rock art, or keep an eye on the Altafjord as whale watching season begins. With a little luck, you might spot orcas or humpback whales following the herring into the fjords. 🐋

And when evening comes? Well, hopefully the Northern Lights have something special planned for us. 💚

✨ Imagine waking up to this. 💚

The Northern Lights dancing across the Arctic sky, right above your bed. No need to head outside, just look up and enjoy the show.

It’s one of those moments so many people dream of when visiting Northern Norway. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, that dream becomes reality. ✨

Tucked away in the pine forest of Alta, Norway, our GLØD Aurora Canvas Domes offer a cosy overnight stay surrounded by Arctic nature. With a wood-burning stove, a comfortable bed and a transparent section of the dome above you, there’s always the possibility of a little magic during the night.

Of course, the Northern Lights are never guaranteed. Sometimes they appear right above the Domes, and other nights you have to go looking. That’s why we also offer private guided Northern Lights tours, heading out from Alta in search of clear skies and the best possible conditions.

And if you’re lucky enough to see them from your bed? Well, that’s a little Arctic magic. ✨

Klar for et lite skieventyr? Eller kanskje et litt større?

Det er noe eget med å legge ut på ski i Finnmark. Stillheten, de enorme viddene, frisk vinterluft og følelsen av å være langt unna hverdagen. ⛷️

Hos GLØD Explorer i Alta tar vi deg med på skiekspedisjoner gjennom noen av Nord-Norges vakreste villmarksområder.

🏔️ 4 dager over Finnmarksvidda – med start fra Alta. På ski om dagen, varme måltider og koselige fjellstuer om kvelden. En fin blanding av eventyr og komfort, med polarhunder som hjelper til med å trekke fellesutstyret.

Og for deg som kjenner at fire dager kanskje ikke er helt nok? 😉

Vi har også noen lengre skieventyr på lur! For deg som drømmer om å utfordre deg selv, krysse store, øde vinterlandskap og kjenne på mestringsfølelsen etter mange dager ute på ski.

Noen eventyr varer i fire dager. Andre tar deg litt lenger utenfor komfortsonen. 🤍

✨ The Northern Lights have been putting on quite a show in Alta!

A few beautiful moments from this weekend, and we’re already looking forward to heading out again with our guests. Hopefully the Aurora has a few more surprises waiting for us! 💚

There’s something pretty special about watching the Northern Lights dance across the Arctic sky. Sometimes a gentle green glow, other times ribbons of colour moving above the mountains. And no two evenings are ever quite the same.

At GLØD Explorer, we’ve been hunting the Northern Lights in Alta, Northern Norway since the 2007/2008 season.

Our Northern Lights tours are all about finding clear skies. With experienced guides, we head away from the city lights and explore the surrounding fjords, valleys and wilderness of Finnmark, wherever conditions look most promising.

Join a small group of up to eight guests per guide, or enjoy a private Northern Lights experience. Along the way, we share photography tips, take photos of our guests when conditions allow, and keep everyone warm with hot soup and a little something sweet. 📸

Good company, a little adventure and hopefully a sky full of Northern Lights. ✨

Happy Friday from Alta!

Autumn in Northern Norway has been giving us a little bit of everything lately. Sunshine, rain, wind, clouds… and perhaps even our first snow this coming week. ❄️

But we’re here for it all!

🍂 Høst in Alta.

The colours are changing, the air is getting cooler, and we’re making the most of autumn in Alta, Northern Norway while it lasts.

These are the days for hiking through the forest with a husky, taking a canoe onto the Alta River, or heading out on the trails by MTB or e-MTB — surrounded by gold, orange, red and the last touches of green. 🐕🛶🚵

But høst in Norway isn’t only about getting outside. It’s also the season for warm evenings, gathering with friends and family, and traditions like fårikål — Norway’s classic autumn dish of lamb and cabbage.

A little adventure. Good food. Good people. And plenty of time outside before winter takes over. 🤍

Looking for something sweet this weekend?

In Norway, there’s a little tradition of saving the sweets for lørdag — Saturday. After a week of work, school and getting outside, the weekend is when something sweet feels especially well deserved.

Chef Simo may come from Italy, but after making his home here in Alta, Northern Norway, he’s getting pretty good at the Norwegian weekend traditions. 😉

This little creation brings together white chocolate, coconut milk, coconut oil and cloudberries — one of the Arctic’s favourite berries, picked from the wild landscapes of the north. 🧡

A little Italian creativity. A taste of Northern Norway. And a good excuse for something sweet this weekend.
