We recently travelled to Bergen to pick up uniforms from Dale of Norway, a Norwegian heritage brand specialising in premium wool knitwear.

Two historic Norwegian businesses, both with stories shaped by the railway. When the Bergen–Voss line opened in 1883, a sidetrack connected Dale’s textile mill to the railway, making it easier to transport goods. By 1909, the line connected Bergen and Kristiania (now Oslo), bringing communities closer together and opening up opportunities for Norwegian businesses. That same year, our original mountain lodge, Finse Fjeldstue, welcomed its first guests.

With wool’s long tradition in the Norwegian mountains and a shared appreciation for history and craftsmanship, these sweaters feel right at home here at Finse. 🤍

En smak av Finse! 🍂

For en helg, og for en smaksopplevelse 🧡

Under årets Smak av Finse fikk kjøkkenet vårt virkelig utfolde seg med råvarer fra lokale produsenter og gårder langs Bergensbanen.

Fra plommer plukket i hagen, ferske kamskjell fra Bergen og nyfisket fjellørret til gulrøtter fra lokale gårder og smakfullt fjellam. Det ble en smakfull meny!

Kokkene våre har kost seg med å besøke lokale gårder og produsenter, bli kjent med råvarene og eksperimentere på kjøkkenet. Med lokale ingredienser, inspirasjon fra ulike matkulturer og masse kreativitet ble resultatet en middag vi sent vil glemme. 🫶

En stor takk til Kristine og Odd i Haugen , som både bidro med fantastiske råvarer og ga oss et spennende innblikk i håndverket bak partering av et helt lam. Vi fikk blant annet lære hvordan livet i fjellet, med dyp snø, variert terreng og naturlig beite, påvirker både muskulaturen og smaken på kjøttet. Utrolig fascinerende!

Tusen takk til alle som var med og gjorde Smak av Finse til en så fin helg. Og ikke minst til våre lokale produsenter som legger så mye arbeid og kjærlighet i råvarene sine. 🧡

Kortreist mat, nye smaker og gode historier rundt bordet. Akkurat slik vi liker det.

A little glimpse of Finsebyen. 🤍

What began as a small settlement during the construction of the Bergen Railway has grown into a rather special mountain community.

Finse has welcomed generations of railway workers, polar explorers, skiers and travelers from near and far.

More than a century later, the train is still the only way to get here. A little place with a lot of history. 🚂

From journeys across Greenland and Antarctica to snowkiting across vast stretches of ice, cold-weather medicine, polar photography and the next generation of explorers, this year’s line-up has some extraordinary stories to share.

And there’s more to the weekend than talks! Try your hand at pulling a pulk around Finsevannet, swap stories with the people behind the expeditions, and gather around our tables for good food and conversation.

Whether you’re an experienced adventurer or simply curious about the world of exploration, there’s plenty to discover and interesting people to meet!

A weekend of yoga, nourishing food, fresh snow and mountain air.

From morning dips in Finsevann and warming up by the fire to yoga sessions, mountain walks, shared meals and evenings filled with conversation.
