Thinking about visiting Kirkenes this summer? Here are a few reasons why you absolutely shouldn’t. 😉
❌ If you dislike having endless daylight, the Midnight Sun will be a nightmare. Imagine trying to explain why you’re hiking at 11 PM with full sunshine.
❌ If you prefer crowded beaches and traffic jams, our quiet fjords, mountain plateaus and open wilderness will be deeply disappointing.
❌ If you’re not interested in fresh king crab straight from the Barents Sea, you should definitely stay away from our king crab tours. 🦀
❌ If you hate wildlife, be warned. You might spot sea eagles, seals, porpoises, reindeer and even whales during summer excursions. 🦅🐋
❌ If sleeping in a hotel made of snow sounds completely unreasonable in the middle of July, Snowhotel 365 will only confuse you. ❄️
❌ And if you don’t enjoy breathtaking views, fresh Arctic air and stories from Europe’s northern frontier, Kirkenes is probably not for you.
So yes, for your own safety, it may be best to avoid North Norway this summer. We hear crowded airports and packed city streets are lovely this time of year. 😏

What to do in Kirkenes in May?

If I could pick just one thing to do, I would go and meet the puppies! Just look at the cute little faces!

The dogyard is open every day and visiting is included in our Snow Resort ticket.

A giant King Crab has risen from the snow at Snowhotel 365 🦀❄️

Creating this sculpture was no small task. Layer by layer, snow and ice were shaped into one of the Arctic’s most iconic creatures — the King Crab, famous here in Kirkenes for both its impressive size and incredible taste. The artists worked carefully to capture the long legs, sharp textures and powerful shape of this monster from the Barents Sea
The King Crab first arrived in the Barents Sea from the Pacific Ocean in the 1960s, and today Kirkenes is one of the best places in the world to experience it. Some crabs can grow to nearly 2 meters from claw to claw and weigh more than 10 kilos 🌊

At Snow resort kirkenes, the King Crab is part of the adventure all year round. In summer, we head out on the fjord by RIB boat 🚤 In winter, the journey continues across the frozen landscape by snowmobile ❄️ Both tours bring you close to Arctic nature, local stories and of course the legendary King Crab itself.

📍Fun fact: King Crabs can walk sideways at surprising speed — and their legs can span wider than a grown person is tall.

WE ARE HIRING – On-Call Host / Waiter for Summer Season 🌿

Would you like to work in one of the most unique hospitality destinations in Northern Norway? At Snow resort kirkenes, no two evenings are the same. One night you might welcome guests from all over the world after a king crab safari, another night you are part of creating memorable moments in our restaurant surrounded by Arctic nature, great colleagues and an international atmosphere. ✨

We are now looking for an on-call host/waiter to join our team this summer.

This position mainly involves evening shifts during weekdays and weekends, and requests to work may come on short notice.

We are looking for someone who:
• Is 20 years or older
• Speaks English fluently
• Preferably speaks Norwegian (not required)
• Enjoys working with people and being part of a team
• Can handle a fast-paced and social work environment

Local applicants are preferred, but summer accommodation can be provided if needed. Immediate start.

For the right candidate, there may also be an opportunity for a full-time position for the winter season. ❄️
