Wild Asian elephants in Bardiya a magnificent transboundary journey between Nepal and India.

Bardiya National Park and its surrounding forests are among the important habitats for wild Asian elephants in Nepal. The park’s Sal forests, riverine forests, grasslands, floodplains and abundant water sources provide ideal habitat for these magnificent giants.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Bardiya’s elephants is their seasonal movement between Nepal and India. Around 40–60 wild elephants seasonally move between Bardiya and India through the Khata Forest Corridor, connecting Bardiya National Park with Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh, India.
This ancient transboundary movement shows how important wildlife corridors are for elephant conservation. Seasonal Elephant movements can vary with rainfall, food, water and human activity. Historical observations indicate that elephants commonly move toward India around September–October and return toward Nepal as the monsoon approaches.

The dry season, particularly March May, can offer good opportunities because elephants move more regularly toward rivers and other water sources to drink and cool themselves. Early morning and late afternoon are generally the most comfortable wildlife-viewing periods, although elephant sightings are never guaranteed.
Bardiya is not simply a place to see elephants it is a place to understand their wild, seasonal and transboundary life. Every sighting is a privilege, and every elephant corridor is a lifeline connecting Nepal’s forests with India’s wilderness.
Protect the corridors. Protect the forests. Protect the elephants

Karnataka Forest Department and WWF-India have joined forces to boost raptor conservation. State-wide surveys, data-driven monitoring, and landscape-level actions will be undertaken to protect birds of prey.

Karnataka’s first raptor survey is set to begin across key tiger reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, and the Ramadevarabetta Vulture Sanctuary, India’s first and only dedicated vulture sanctuary.
