Know the living legends: He is 92 Yrs Old Kanchha Sherpa who is the only living member of the first team that helped Tenzing Norgay & Edmund Hilary climb Mt. Everest on this Day, 70 Years ago. He lives with his family at a lodge called Nirvana Home in Namche Bazar & talks with guests as well.

Finally an official statement from the local government of Khumbu region !
A guide is recommended but not mandatory while trekking in the Everest region.

The era of solo trekking has ended in Nepal. Beginning April 1, individual backpackers can only roam the country when accompanied by a guide.

Free independent travellers (FIT) or solo trekkers are free to travel without guides in the Everest region.
The Khumbu region remains unaffected by the decision of Nepal Tourism Board, because the local Khumbu government has its own tourist fee and also recently issued a trek card with a tracking system for the safety of trekkers.
Traveling solo gives freedom to the trekkers and time to explore Himalayas at their own time and pace. This is real adventure !
