AUMSA - Auckland University Medical Students' Association AUMSA is a student-run organisation which represents Auckland Medical Students and hosts a wide range of social, sporting and educational events. Let's face it.

Medical school isn't easy. With considerable academic pressure being added to existing commitments, medical school will often be one of the greatest challenges students have faced. Elected and governed by the student body of the medical school, AUMSA, the Auckland University Medical Students' Association, is an association that exists to represent and act in the interests of Auckland Medical Students. From the little things, to the bigger picture, we work to make your life that much easier. Each year, we bring you numerous social, sporting, and educational events, such as the Annual Medical School Ball, pub crawls, parties, BBQ's, staff-student debates, inter-faculty sporting tournaments, information seminars and medical symposiums. What's more, we liaise with the faculty to improve the curriculum and voice the concerns of the student body. In addition, for your viewing pleasure, we publish the notorious medical school magazine - (ND) New Doctor. As a member, you will have access to and receive discounts on the aforementioned events but also get the opportunity to apply for academic travel funds, meet wizened students, and more ! This is your student association, we're just here to help.

Calling all AUMSA members 📣🗳️

We would like to invite you to our AGM (Annual General Meeting), being held in Room 503-028 at Grafton campus on the 30th of October, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. There will also be a zoom link if you would like to join remotely.

Our AGM serves as a meeting for AUMSA members and executive members to reflect on AUMSA's achievements in the past year, as well as to have their say in electing constitutional changes. It is not a social event, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun! 🍕

Here is the (rough) agenda for our AGM:
⭐️ 5:00pm - 5:30pm: Free Pizza and (non-alcoholic) drinks
⭐️ 5:30pm - 6:15pm: AGM Presentation - A reflection on AUMSA's activities in 2026
⭐️ 6:15pm - 6:20pm: Voting for new constitutional amendments
⭐️ 6:20pm - 6:30pm: Reveal of the 2027 AUMSA executive council

💙 Voting for the 2026 AUMSA Council is now OPEN! 📣

Voting can be found via the link in our bio!

You are highly encouraged to vote for the candidates who you think will best represent your interests and values as a medical student. Candidate profiles can be viewed in the link found on Class Facebooks!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF AUMSA TO VOTE. This is open to all Auckland medical students who are enrolled and on one of the class lists. Voting is open from 6PM on Friday the 9th October until 6PM on Sunday the 11th October.

All votes are anonymous, and the following voter restrictions apply:

📌 Māngai Māori Rep: Only students who have identified as Māori on the university records can vote.
📌 Pasifika Rep: Only students who have identified as Pasifika on the university records can vote.
📌 International Rep: Only international students can vote.
📌 Preclinical NZMSA Rep: Only students entering 3rd year can vote.
📌 Clinical Rep: Only students entering 4th, 5th and 6th year can vote.
📌 Waitematā/Auckland City/South Auckland/Waikato/Rotorua/Tauranga/Taranaki/Northland Site Rep: only students placed at these respective clinical sites in 2026 can vote.

The winning candidate for each position will be the person who receives the most votes.

The election results will be announced at the AUMSA Annual General Meeting.

International Medical Students looking for a PGY1 job 🩺📣

Te Whatu Ora has confirmed PGY1 positions for 2025/2026 (+ 2027 training year) based on forecast medical school graduate numbers, including Category 3

✅ Overall outcomes have been positive, combining match offers + Talent Pool offers
💡 Good to know:
- Districts can have vacancies open up after the match (declined offers, new positions)
- These are filled via the Talent Pool
- All unmatched applicants go into the Talent Pool automatically
- No category priority in the Talent Pool any district can select any unmatched applicant
- Historically, strong success securing PGY1 roles post-match 💪

⚖️ The algorithm weighs your preferences + employer rankings + position numbers, so no district is guaranteed. Only rank districts you're genuinely willing to work in!

📌 Outcomes vary year to year based on positions available, applicant preferences & district rankings.
