A food forest doesn’t look like a garden. It looks like something between a farm and a bush.
That’s the point.
Our syntropic orchard grows subtropical and temperate species in the same system — designed to produce food and build soil biology at the same time. It’s only a few years old and already it feels established.
The fifty-year version of this will be extraordinary.

Some trees hold a place in memory before you’ve even arrived.

This pōhutukawa has been here long before Hillbrook. Old enough that its roots still reach down through the air, searching for ground. Its canopy is wide enough to climb into, sit beneath and disappear for a while.

It marks the place where the farm meets the beach. Walk beneath it and somehow, the world changes.

By the end of the day, the 2026 planting was complete. 15,000 new native trees are now in the ground — another step in shaping the landscape for the years ahead. Every season leaves something behind and this one will keep growing long after winter. 🌱
