Tolaga Bay Wharf, one of New Zealand’s longest piers, stretches 660 metres out into the bay and remains one of the most recognisable landmarks along the East Coast. 🌊
Built in 1929, the wharf once played a vital role in connecting this remote part of Tairāwhiti with the rest of the country, with ships bringing in farming supplies and transporting locally produced meat and wool.
Today, the wharf is no longer a working port and public access is restricted, but its impressive concrete structure still stands nearly 100 years later as an important piece of local history.
