Experienced Shepherd - Toronui Station

JOB DESCRIPTION
Toronui Station Partnership is a family owned and operated Sheep and Beef Business located in the renowned Tutira district of Hawke’s Bay (Approximately 1 hour from Napier and 20 mins from Lake Tutira).

With a total area of 2800 hectares (2100 effective and including a long term lease) Toronui is currently running approximately 16,500 stock units, including approximately 8,000 Romney/Romdale breeding ewes and replacements and 830 Angus cows and replacements. Lambs are finished or sold store as the season allows, with weaner steers all sold and surplus heifers carried through for an additional 12 months.

The overarching business aims are to produce quality stock which is sought after in the market, while maintaining a superior asset in the land and improvements that makes this readily achievable on a sustainable basis.

Being located on the Maungaharuru Range, the property varies in altitude and contour. It is generally summer safe and winter feeding is enhanced with a swede crop and pasture renewal programme.

There is an excellent level of infrastructure, with three woolsheds, satellite sheep yards, 4 sets of cattle yards and extensive laneways and track network. The better contoured and lower country is well subdivided with 7-8 wire conventional fences, while the higher country is more extensively farmed and in larger blocks. The property is currently run by a team of four including the Farm Manager.



To be successful in this position you will need to come with:

• A minimum of two years shepherding experience

• A demonstrated sense of pride in your workplace

• Strong communication skills

• An understanding of technology or a willingness to learn – FarmIQ, Farmax and Halter

• A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace

• A good sense of humour.

• A capable team of 4 – 6 working dogs.

• Competence on a horse.

Farm Manager - Toronui Station

With the incumbent Manager moving on after 9 years in the role, we are now looking for a new Farm Manager.

To be successful the new Manager will need to come with:

• Experience managing a large scale operation.

• Outstanding communication skills.

• A demonstrated ability as a successful stockman

• A commitment to and understanding of the importance of measuring and monitoring

• An understanding of technology or willingness to learn - FarmIQ and Farmax are used

• A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace

• A demonstrated sense of pride in their workplace

• A good sense of humour.

• A capable team of working dogs.

• Competence on a horse

• A proven ability in creating and maintaining a team environment.

• Preferably some tractor/machinery experience

• A passion for black cattle and traditional bred sheep.



The property has been run with three full time staff and one part time. It is the intention that it will in the future be run by the new Manager, two Shepherds and a full time General.

There is an excellent level of infrastructure, with three woolsheds, satellite sheep yards, 4 sets of cattle yards and extensive laneways and track network. The better contoured and lower country is well subdivided with 7-8 wire conventional fences, while the higher country is more extensively farmed and in larger blocks. It is the intention to introduce Virtual Fencing to the property within the next 6 months.

The Managers job will come with:

• A comfortable four bedroom house
