What does stillness mean to you?

For us, it's this. The mirror of the lake at dawn. The mist lifting off the water. The quiet when the only sound is the forest waking.

It's not about doing less. It's about being somewhere that lets you simply be.

We keep this kind of stillness waiting on the West Coast.

Some weekends are worth planning early.

The big birthday everyone will actually make an effort for. The anniversary that deserves more than dinner at a restaurant. The family gathering you've been talking about for years. A weekend away with friends where, for once, everyone is in the same place.

These are the occasions where having the whole lodge changes things.

No other guests. No splitting everyone between different accommodation. No deciding who's cooking breakfast or making the dinner reservation. And no one person spending the weekend quietly making sure everything runs to plan.

With Exclusive Use at Lake Brunner Eco Lodge, the lodge becomes yours and we host the experience around you.

Accommodation. Shared meals. Long evenings around the table. Glowworms after dark. Kayaks on the lake. And plenty of time together without having to organise every hour of it.

We host only a limited number of Exclusive Use stays each season, so if there's a birthday, anniversary, family gathering or group weekend sitting in your 2027 calendar, now is a very good time to start thinking about it.

You don't need to have all the details worked out. That's part of what we're here for.

Bring us the occasion. We'll help you create the stay around it.

One of you loves fly fishing. The other one doesn't.

That shouldn't mean one of you gets the holiday you want while the other spends three days waiting for you to come back from the river.

We've thought about that. While you're out fishing West Coast water with your guide, your partner has a completely different kind of day ahead of them.

They might take a kayak onto the lake. Go for a walk. Find a quiet spot with a book. Explore the area. Or do something that can be surprisingly difficult on holiday.

Absolutely nothing.

Then, at the end of the day, you come back together. A hot shower. Dinner prepared for you. A glass of wine. And probably a fairly detailed account of the trout that took the fly, the trout that didn't, and the trout that was definitely much bigger than it looked.

You don't have to love the same things to have a great holiday together.

The fishing can be yours.
The holiday belongs to both of you.

Our fully hosted fly-fishing stays run throughout the New Zealand trout season from October to April.

There is a much easier way to do the Kumara Races.

Every January, thousands of people make their way to Kumara for one of the West Coast's great summer traditions.

The racing. The atmosphere. The people. The unmistakable West Coast character.

But there's also accommodation to find, transport to organise, race tickets to think about, meals to arrange and the inevitable question of who's driving home.

So we've taken care of it.

Stay with us for the Kumara Gold Nuggets Weekend, 8 to 10 January 2027, and your race weekend starts the moment you arrive at Lake Brunner Eco Lodge.

Dinner at the lodge on Friday night. A champagne breakfast on Saturday morning. Transport to and from the races. Race entry. Lunch and drinks while you're there. Then back to the lodge after the last race, where dinner is waiting and you can settle in for another relaxed evening.
No designated driver. No race-day logistics. No wondering where you're going to eat afterwards. Just a very good weekend at the races, with everything around it taken care of.

Only seven hosted packages are available for 2027.

$2,499 for two people.

If Kumara has been on your list for a while, perhaps this is the year to do it properly.

Book a hosted Kumara Races package at Lake Brunner Eco Lodge. Transfers, race entry, dining, and accommodation are included. Limited availability.

Think about the best holiday you've ever had. What's the first thing you remember?

It might not be the attraction you booked months in advance or the restaurant everyone told you that you had to try.

Quite often, it's something much smaller. The coffee you drank while everyone else was still asleep. The place you stopped because it looked interesting. A conversation over dinner that went on far longer than expected. Or that afternoon when you changed the plans completely and ended up having the best day of the trip.

After years of hosting guests, we've noticed the same thing here.

The stories people tell us when they're leaving are rarely about how much they managed to fit in. They're about moments. And it got us thinking about how much pressure we put on ourselves to plan the ""perfect"" holiday. Our latest blog is about why leaving a little empty space in your itinerary might be one of the best travel decisions you make.

**The Best Holiday Memories Are Never On The Itinerary**

Have a read, and we'd love to know what you think.

What's the holiday moment you still remember that you never planned?

The moments we remember most aren't usually the ones we planned. Discover why slowing down, embracing the unexpected, and leaving space in your day creates the holidays you'll never forget.

"Our host went above and beyond."

There are plenty of lovely things Margaret and Peter said after their stay with us. They loved the setting between the native bush and the lake. The exceptionally comfortable bed. The hot tub. The delicious dinner and plentiful breakfast.

But this is the part that means the most to us.

""Very friendly and welcoming host who went above and beyond taking us to see the glow worms at night.""

Because that's really what we want staying at Lake Brunner to feel like. Not checking into a room and being left to figure everything out yourself. But arriving somewhere you're welcomed, fed well, encouraged to slow down, and looked after while you're here.

Sometimes that means dinner waiting for you at the end of the day. Sometimes it's helping you decide what to explore. And sometimes it's heading out after dark to show you the glowworms.

Thank you Margaret and Peter for staying with us, and for taking the time to share such lovely words.

This is what a Christmas function can look like when someone else takes care of the details.

This group joined us as part of a Kiwi Travel tour and celebrated their mid-winter Christmas here at the lodge.

Dinner around one table. Christmas hats firmly encouraged. Plenty of conversation.

And nobody in the group disappearing into the kitchen to worry about what needed to happen next. It's one of the things we love about hosting groups at Lake Brunner.

When you have the lodge to yourselves, we can take care of the accommodation, meals and all those little details that usually fall to one unfortunate person in the group.

You arrive. You settle in. And you actually get to enjoy the occasion you've organised.

So if you've been nominated to organise this year's Christmas function, there is an easier way to do it.

Bring your people. We'll help take care of the rest.

Exclusive Use Christmas stays are now open for enquiries.

Ask a fly fisher where they want to fish in New Zealand and they'll probably have a river in mind.

But on the West Coast, there's another question that's often more important.

When should you fish it?

Conditions here can change quickly. Rain overnight can change river levels and clarity, while another piece of water not far away may be fishing beautifully.

That's why we don't believe in deciding months in advance exactly where you'll fish each day.

Our local guides watch the conditions, look at what's happening on the water and make that decision with you when you're here.

Sometimes the best decision is to stay. Sometimes it's to move. And sometimes the river you hadn't planned to fish turns out to be the best day of the trip.

That's part of fly fishing on the West Coast. It's not about chasing a famous name on a map. It's about being on the right water at the right time.

Our hosted fly-fishing season runs from October through April, with guided packages available throughout the season.

If you're thinking about fishing the West Coast this season, now is a good time to start talking dates.

A Little Better Every Season

While the lodge has been quieter over winter, we've been making the most of every day.

Our annual Winter Refresh is all about taking care of the jobs that are difficult to complete while we're busy hosting guests.

This season we've been:

• Refreshing staff rooms with new paint.
• Preparing for new carpet throughout the lodge.
• Creating a dedicated massage room overlooking the native bush and Lake Brunner.
• Tackling the many behind-the-scenes improvements that help keep the lodge looking its best.

Some of these changes are guest-facing. Some are simply part of caring for a property that's been welcoming visitors for generations. We believe it's the little details that make a stay feel effortless.

We're looking forward to welcoming guests back for spring fly fishing, exclusive use celebrations and our Hosted Kumara Races Weekend.

See you soon at Lake Brunner.

Over the past year we've welcomed guests from all over New Zealand and beyond, celebrated special occasions, hosted memorable weekends, shared countless dinners around our table, and met some truly wonderful people.

To everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, recommended us, or followed our journey, thank you. Your support means more than you probably realise.

Throughout July, we'll be closing the lodge to carry out some planned maintenance and complete a few projects that are difficult to do while we're welcoming guests.

It's all part of making sure Lake Brunner Eco Lodge continues to be a place where people can relax, reconnect, and feel completely looked after.

We'll be reopening on 1 August 2026, refreshed and ready to welcome guests back for another season.

We already have some exciting events and experiences planned for the months ahead, and we can't wait to share them with you.

Until then, thank you once again for being part of our story.

We'll still be responding to enquiries and taking bookings for future stays while the lodge is closed.

We look forward to welcoming you back from 1 August.
