FLOODING UPDATE

A State of Emergency remains in place for Kaikōura. Emergency services continue to respond to flooding across the district.
Evacuations
Residents in the upper Red Swamp area, from Mill Road through to Red Swamp are being evacuated.
West End, Green Lane and Ludstone Road have been evacuated
If you feel your property, family or personal safety is at risk, do not wait for an official evacuation order. Self-evacuate to a safe location, preferably on higher ground, and let family or friends know where you are.

If you have been evacuated please do not be tempted to go back to your homes tonight. Please wait until this evening once the situation has been reassessed.
Road Updates
• State Highway 1 remains closed – North and South.
• People travelling into Kaikōura are being turned around at Mangamaunu.
• NZTA advises that routes both north and south are closed.
• Old Beach Road is closed
• Please do not drive unless absolutely necessary and drive with extreme caution
Community Support
New Life Church is operating as a Community Support Centre for evacuees but may not be able to provide overnight accommodation. We are looking at alternative options for a place to stay overnight and will keep you informed.
Please check in with friends and family as an alternative. As current locations for shelter become full, The Memorial Hall will be the next available evacuation centre from 5pm this evening.

Water Supply
All water schemes are currently operating normally. Residents connected to the Kincaid Water Scheme are still asked to conserve water.
Current Situation
• Lyell Creek remains within its banks.
• Community representatives are providing updates from Oaro and Kekerengū.
• Search and Rescue teams are available to assist if required
• Kowhai has breached – teams are working on additional stop banks.
• Additional is rain expected
Please Remember
• Follow instructions from emergency services.
• Do not drive through floodwater.
• Avoid unnecessary travel.
• Check on neighbours and vulnerable members of the community if it is safe to do so.
• Put your safety and the safety of your whānau first.
