Rosaries, wooden prayer beads and religious medals, found in the brocante markets of Narbonne and Béziers, near our home in Quarante. I’m really drawn to these little devotional pieces—and thinking about the people they’ve comforted along the way.

Shutters closed, tools out! Maison & Village in Quarante is taking a break while we rewire the house and retile the courtyard. We’ll reopen in April 2027—ready for brocante season - but why wait?

Hands recognise handmade. Our finger explore the slub of linen, the weight of a pot, the feel of a well-worn rug. Half the joy of a brocante is discovering things by touch. These beautiful objects made by hand are a joy to the eye, heart and hand.

There’s so much more to discover when you take the little roads. A cypress lane, a mysterious gate, an olive grove just beyond. Places that feel out of time and out of place, reminding me to never hurry through the world..

From NZ I brought beautiful pillow cases from Rosanna Best ~ Shopkeeper and Lover of all things Interior Nelson and found this oil painting at a local brocante store. We wanted a simple peaceful space for the second bedroom. Guests can relax in the dappled afternoon sun.

It’s so heartening to see many renovation projects in Quarante and with resident Americans Brits and Kiwis these beautiful old French 🇫🇷 homes are given a new lease of life. I happened to think this grand dame was particularly special.

Pellet fire 🔥 back online and fabulous. As the autumn descends on Quarante and the Occitane region, there was a distinct chill in the air this morning. Imagine then our delight to start the pellet fire and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. BTS our new fumisterie had to remove a panel and extract a dead bat 🦇 in order to get it back up and running - makes sense - nice and warm and inviting ?

A classic cameo-style profile in a bold, angular brass setting. I love the delicate detail against the worn-looking brass tones—a little old-world charm with a modern edge.
