After a quiet winter in the Sounds, we are ready to welcome people back.

Walkers.
Boaties.
Old friends.
First-time visitors.
People arriving for adventure and people arriving to do very little at all.

A new season is just one week away.

And we’re rather excited about it!

The décor may have changed, but we like to think the important things haven’t.

A cold drink at the end of the day.
Good conversation around the bar.
Stories swapped from the water and the track.
And that warm feeling of having arrived somewhere worth the journey.

to Portage in another era - different chairs, different boats, same view 🌿

Long before today’s resort, people were already drawn to this remarkable spot between the Sounds.

To sit by the water.
To slow down.
To watch boats pass by.
To enjoy good company with the hills rising quietly behind them.

So much has changed over the years, but some things haven’t.

That feeling of arriving somewhere a little removed from the everyday. Somewhere the journey is part of the experience, and the view encourages you to stay a while.

There’s a different kind of beauty in the Sounds at this time of year.

Cool air. Still water. Mist hanging low over the hills. And that wonderful winter quiet where it feels as though the whole bay has yet to wake up.

Portage may be taking its seasonal break, but the Marlborough Sounds certainly aren’t.

This is winter here - a little wilder, a lot quieter, and every bit as beautiful 🥰
