Many roads across the network have been affected by the significant winter storm we experienced yesterday and overnight. While roading crews are spread across multiple sites throughout the district, here's what we know so far:

๐Ÿšง Gorge Road, Queenstown

Open to one lane following overnight flooding. We're expecting the second lane to reopen around 5.00pm this evening.

๐Ÿšง One Mile Roundabout, Queenstown

A lot of surface flooding following a washout last night, the road is currently down to one lane with traffic management in place.

๐Ÿšง Glenorchy-Queenstown Road

Closed between One Mile Roundabout and Sunshine Bay turn-off due to a slip. Alternative route over Fernhill Road available. The road will remain closed overnight.

๐Ÿšง Rees Valley Road, Glenorchy

Closed due to flooding and debris.

๐Ÿšง Paradise Road, Glenorchy

Closed due to flooding and debris.

๐Ÿšง Greenstone Road, Glenorchy

Closed for 2WD.

๐Ÿšง Skippers Road / Branches Road

Closed at the Saddle due to multiple slips. Crews will begin establishing onsite next week and will work progressively along the road to clear slips and debris. Next update will be Monday 7 September.

๐Ÿšง Lake Hayes access road (rowing club)

The road here is inaccessible due to damage caused by flooding.

๐Ÿšง Mount Aspiring Road, Wฤnaka

Open, but a slip is at the 9km mark. Whilst it's passable, please drive with care as there is a vehicle stuck in the slip which we hope to clear sometime today.

๐Ÿšง Various Roads, Upper Clutha

Surface flooding is present on various roads throughout the Upper Clutha including (but not limited to) Sir Tim Wallis Drive, Ballantyne Road, Cemetery Road, Gladstone Road and Camphill Road.

๐Ÿšง SH6 Makarora-Hฤwea

NZTA is advising this section of road is closed due to multiple slips. We'll provide an update when we get one, otherwise check in on NZTA channels.

Please drive with extreme care today and avoid driving through any flood waters. We'll continue to update this post as we receive more information. If you spot any urgent issues on the roads, please call 03 441 0499.

Update 8.26am: Engineers have inspected the bridge this morning and are happy for it to reopen. Roading crews are onsite now removing traffic management to allow traffic to flow. Thanks to everyone for their patience!

[Original Post]

As you may have recently felt, we've just experienced a significant earthquake. As a precaution, the Edith Cavell Bridge will be closed for inspection by engineers at first light. We'll provide a further update around 8.30am in the morning.

If you're travelling over the Crown Range, please drive carefully and be alert for rocks or debris that may have fallen onto the road as a result of the earthquake.
