When I first planted this garden a year ago, I had no idea how much it would change the way I looked at gardening. If there was one piece of advice I could give you, it would be to grow a perennial garden! They offer so many benefits ~ winter interest, low maintenance & of course they come back every year!

They are also in my experience, so easy to grow! This took no fancy tricks — just a mix of perennials repeated through the bed, planted out in spring, watered weekly & left to do their thing.

If you’ve been putting off starting your own garden because you think it’s too late, or too much, it isn’t. Now is actually one of the best times to get perennials in the ground. And if you’re on the other side of the world, Autumn is actually a good time too! ❤️

My garden over the years. What started with a few sweet peas in my vege garden about 6 years ago, turned into a few rows of dahlias in the dirt to now a more permanent garden with raised beds of annuals & perennials. I’ve learnt so much over the years from trial & error, teaching myself through reading books and watching other growers online plus learning what grows well in my climate and what doesn’t. What’s more is I’ve learnt a garden is never finished, it is its own ecosystem and ever evolving. Which makes sense, it’s living! Something I have come to love so much about gardening, because with it I grow too. I grow in confidence and more in love with gardening and plants every day. My garden isn’t perfect or where I think I want it to be and I don’t think it ever will be. But it’s the process of learning where I can take it and where it will take me every season that I enjoy more than anything. I can’t wait to see what more I can grow and create in my home garden, it’s my oasis. I want my daughter to grow up with the confidence to give things a go and I hope I inspire some of you to grow something too! Gardening is truly for everybody ❤️

As spring nears it’s a good time to start sowing your flower seeds! These are what I sowed about 10 days ago, and already 4 out of 7 have germinated. Some take longer than others because they all require slightly different temps & conditions to germinate. (Some even don’t like light!) So it’s important to check this before starting.

Most of these are hardy annuals as they like cooler temps yet my cosmos were first to germinate! I do find it a particularly easy flower to grow for this reason. A great beginner flower! 🌸

I’m not actually certain I have room in my garden for all these amongst the dahlias, perennials & self-seeded annuals but I’ve made a rule that I have to sow all the seeds I’ve got before I’m allowed to buy anymore! Anyone got any spare Dara seeds floating around?? 😅🙏🏼

I’m having a real moment for Mignonette, I think it’s a wildly underrated cut flower and is just so lovely in the garden. Hope this inspires you to get sowing! What are some of your fav annuals to grow? ❤️

There’s something so comforting about still having flowers to pick in the middle of winter. Even if they’re few and far between.

One of my favourite things about having a garden is always having something to bring. A small bunch wrapped in tissue paper, picked that morning (or in this case just before leaving) — it never needs to be perfect to be appreciated.

This little bouquet took me ten minutes to gather. Most of these flowers technically shouldn’t still be blooming. But I didn’t cut anything back at the end of the season, and somehow the garden rewarded me for it.

We’ve been housing a few verrry hungry caterpillars in our glasshouse the last few weeks, and today we were lucky enough to witness our first monarch butterfly hatch from its chrysalis. 🥹✨🦋

It’s not every day one of your favourite childhood stories becomes a reality, and hopefully one day one of Albi’s too. How special ❤️❤️❤️
