This stunning alpine wonderland is one of only a handful of sites throughout the world to be gifted dual natural and cultural World Heritage status by UNESCO. Combining all the facilities of a 4 star Qualmark rated hotel with the ambience of a European alpine lodge the Powderhorn Chateau features 30 well appointed, individually decorated suites and a private luxury apartment. The timbered interiors, welcoming beds and generous bathrooms create a homely feel with quality fabrics and furnishings featured throughout. The famous Powderkeg Restaurant and Bar burst into life in the late 80s and has held it’s position as ‘the’ place to dine and dance ever since! Open from 7.30am Monday – Friday and 7.00am during the weekends throughout the winter month’s daily serving a popular bar snacks and fresh a la carte menu. The legendary bar proudly displays an impressive collection of craft and specialty beers along with an extensive wine list. The Matterhorn Restaurant and Bar and adjacent conference facilities are available for weddings, special occasions and conferences throughout the year. During the winter, The Matterhorn Restaurant presents Ohakune’s premier dining experience offering a selection of small plates and a unique a la carte menu. Well-constructed cocktails, extensive wine list and selected staff complete the Matterhorn experience. The Powderhorn Chateau is well positioned within an easy driving distance from Turoa and Whakapapa Ski Areas, The Tongariro Alpine Crossing, The Whanganui River and The Bridge to Nowhere Tour and is at the start and finishing point of the Old Coach Road Cycle and Walkway is on our door step.

• Rear carpark of the Ōhakune i-SITE
• Clyde Street carpark – opposite the restaurants
• Moore Street – outside TOP 10 Holiday Park

Please keep your empty 5L water bottles — these can be refilled at the Council water tanker outside the Ruapehu District Council Office, 38 Ayr Street.

Additional potable bottled water will continue to be delivered to these collection points as required while the water supply stabilises.
