The forecast snow arrived but with gale force winds leaving some nice windblown in the gullies. The trails are getting wider and the top to bottom grooming is really good.
Waiting for the next front to pass thru this sunday , hopefully some snow to fall.
Turoa has a good base and it still feels like midwinter. Backcountry access is starting to open up.

The weekend storm cleared sunday and Turoa got 40 cm plus 1-meter drifts. Bluebird days monday and tuesday with the High Noon Express Lift operating late today for the first time this season. Cold temps have kept the snow in great condition with some good powder off trail.

Lenticular clouds this morning from the approaching storm.
We should see at least 50 cm over the next 2 days falling with strong winds that should build up some deep drifts. The snow is starting off wet and heavy from the west and finishing with a nice cold southerly.
The forecast midweek is looking perfect, with clear skies and frosts for next Wednesday.

It was a good school holiday period with lots of fine weather and cold temps.
We now have the Giant chairlift operating at Turoa with one main trail from top to bottom. Off trail is still very marginal and needs at least half a metre. The good news is we have hopefully a good size storm coming in this weekend.
Today was a bonus with a nice dry 5 to 10 cm falling in the morning with no wind.

Winter Season 2026.
The last few months has seen a slow but steady build up of snow on the mountain. Learner facilities are now operating on both Turoa and Whakapapa skifields.
NZ is currently in a storm cycle which is dumping snow down south and it looks like Ruapehu may get some snow from this storm late wed thru thursday.
A brief snowfall this morning, maybe 5cm.

The forecast for the week ahead is bluebird, fine and cold which should be good for making snow. Conditions at Turoa are trails only and they are starting to put some rails in for the park. The Alpine Meadow has a nice cover of snow for the learners and there is still snow around the 14k mark for sightseers and families to play.
