Update

Saturday 17th October 2026. We have snow and lots of it 😀. At present the road is closed while they work on it. The road is very slippery and it is still snowing. Just started snowing at Mt House but not settling. Light breeze and minus 1 degree. Watch our page for updates. Thank Primo for the great cameras

Update

Morning all...Part 2...
Well it's as cold as we thought with the visible signs of low snow now leading up to The Mountain.
Here's a note from the Stratford District Council. (Photo credit: STDC)).
"Pembroke Road is currently open up until Ngati Ruanui Mountain Lodge but closed beyond that.
"If you are travelling to the Lodge please consider chains and drive safely.
"Please be patient and drive safely on the roads today."
At 11.20am, the cold southerly wind is still gusting above gale with bursts up to 78km/h in New Plymouth and 74 km/h in Hawera.
Opunake is currently the windiest in the Country with sustained southerlies of 61 km/h.
In short, it's not very pleasant out there...
The early sun we had here in New Plymouth is now gone and it's intermittently raining....
Take it easy out there....
