Kaipara Harbour entrance, north side, has the most shipwrecks title ( some say over 100). One was exposed just recently by shifting sands!There is a lighthouse further around from the road end at Pouto , in an area of sand dunes and dune lakes.

A painting by a local legend, the late Hillary Atchinson, of the lighthouse at the end of lighthouse road, before it was removed ( as was about to fall over the eroding cliff!)
