Ad Astra Girls' Hostel Ad Astra Hostel provides a safe and family environment for girls who want a quality education at Whanganui Girls’ College.

Nestled in park-like grounds, Ad Astra Hostel is for girls that need somewhere to live while attending Whanganui Girls’ College. Boarders have access to school facilities which include a mirrored performing arts studio, the swimming pool, extensive technology facilities, two gymnasiums and the equestrian program. Whanganui Girls' College boasts some of the best NCEA results in New Zealand and works in tandem with Ad Astra Hostel, who have enjoyed 100% pass rates two years running The Hostel offers care and accommodation for up to 80 girls. The communal nature of boarding life necessitates the establishment of certain rules and procedures to ensure the provision of the best care possible for the girls in our charge and the smooth operation of the household. The overarching aim of the Hostel is to provide a secure and caring environment in which the girls will grow and develop academically, socially, physically and morally. Ad Astra Hostel life encourages high standards and provides a positive environment for academic studies. There are also varied opportunities to participate in sport and many other co-curricular activities. The Ad Astra staff and current Boarders look forward to welcoming the new Boarders and their families into our community. 🛠️ Job Vacancy: Ad Astra Hostel Maintenance Person

Whanganui Girls’ College is seeking a practical, reliable, and proactive Maintenance and Grounds Person to support the upkeep of our Ad Astra Hostel.

This is a part-time position, 2 days per week, with a pay rate of $26.80 per hour.

The successful applicant will help ensure our hostel buildings, grounds, and facilities are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for our boarders and staff.

The role includes:

🔨 Routine maintenance, repairs, and property checks
🎨 Painting, plastering, and touch-up work
🚰 Minor carpentry, plumbing, and basic electrical tasks
🌿 General grounds and property upkeep
⚠️ Supporting health and safety compliance

We are looking for someone who has practical maintenance experience, confidence using a range of tools, good time-management skills, and the ability to work independently.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in maintaining facilities, and values contributing to a supportive school community.

A police vetting check will be required as part of the appointment process.

🏐 WGC Netball Volunteer Trip Fundraiser 🏐

Join us for a fun night out in support of WGC Netball!

Our Volunteer Trip Fundraiser is being held on Friday 23 May at 6pm in the WGC Hall, 21 Jones Street.

Gather a team of 6–8 and come along for an evening of laughs, friendly competition, prizes, auctions, and great company.
