Wellness is everywhere right now. But underneath the trend, I think there is something very real happening.
We’ve become incredibly good at pushing through and surprisingly disconnected from what our bodies are asking for.
For me, wellness starts there. Paying attention again.
When Mike and I started Sansara, we were 26. We built a surf and yoga retreat around the life we loved living ourselves.
Sansara has always been deeply personal for us. So as our lives have changed, the way we think about what this place can offer has changed too.
There was a time when we could surf for hours, work all day, stay up late and wake up ready to do it again.
I don’t look back at that version of us and think we were doing it wrong. We were having a lot of fun.
I just know more now.
I still want the adventure. I still want to surf, move, travel and keep trying things.
What changed is realizing that taking care of my body isn’t the opposite of living fully.
It’s part of how I get to keep doing it.
This question changed a lot for me.
Instead of asking how much more I could do, I started asking what would help me keep doing the things I love well.
Strength. Mobility. Recovery. Sleep. Nourishment.
Not because I want less from life. Quite the opposite.
Wellness is a big word, and sometimes it gets reduced to treatments, routines or whatever happens to be trending.
That isn’t really what interests me.
I’m interested in how all the small choices around movement, food, rest, recovery and connection can work together to help us feel better.
Surf has taught us a lot about this at Sansara.
A surf experience shouldn’t just mean getting a board, going into the ocean and hoping your body figures the rest out.
How you prepare matters. How you move matters. What you learn afterwards matters. Recovery matters.
The whole experience can support you.
That thinking is becoming part of how we are evolving Sansara as a wellness resort here in Cambutal, Panama.
Not by simply adding more activities.
By thinking more carefully about how yoga, surf, strength, recovery, spa, nourishment, rest and nature can support one another.
I never want wellness here to feel transactional.
