Together with the Ese Eja Native Community of In****no, we have built a partnership where tourism creates opportunities for the community while supporting the protection of their ancestral forest. The Peruvian Amazon is home to an incredible diversity of primates, from agile squirrel monkeys moving through the canopy to larger species like spider monkeys. Their behavior, social interactions, and relationships with their environment reveal important connections within the Amazon rainforest. To better understand these fascinating animals, our 8 Primates Project studies their behavior and communication in Tambopata.

Meet the Parrots of the Amazon Rainforest

A visit to the Parrot Clay Lick at Posada
Amazonas offers a remarkable opportunity to observe the incredible diversity of parrots and parakeets found in the Amazon. From a hidden viewing blind, you can spot up to 10 species gathering at the clay lick, including Chestnut-Fronted Macaws, Mealy Parrots, Blue-Headed Parrots, and Cobalt-Winged Parakeets.

But the spectacle also raises a fascinating question: why do these birds eat clay? One leading theory suggests that clay may help supplement sodium in their diet.

Conoce a los loros de la Amazonía

Una visita a la collpa de loros de Posada Amazonas ofrece una oportunidad única para observar la increíble diversidad de psitácidos que habitan la Amazonía. Desde un escondite de observación, puedes avistar hasta 10 especies reunidas en la collpa, incluyendo guacamayos de frente castaña, loros harinosos, loros de cabeza azul y periquitos de ala cobalto.

Oxbow lakes are among the Amazon’s most distinctive habitats, formed when a bend in the river becomes separated from its main channel and transforms into a tranquil lake. After a short boat ride and walk from Posada Amazonas, you’ll explore these calm waters with your guide, where the surrounding forest and fish-rich ecosystem attract an incredible variety of wildlife. Keep an eye out for Hoatzins, Squirrel Monkeys, Giant River Otters, Black Caimans, and Macaws soaring overhead.

Your Amazon adventure begins before you reach the rainforest. Just 5 minutes from Puerto Maldonado Airport, our office is your first stop after arrival, where you’ll meet your guide and we coordinate your transfer to Posada Amazonas, Refugio Amazonas, or Tambopata Research Center. Here, you can repack your luggage, make sure you have everything you need for the days ahead, and get ready for your expedition. You’ll also find a boutique with essentials such as insect repellent and sunscreen, as well as restrooms and a comfortable lounge where you can take a moment before heading into the rainforest.
