Oliver's squat lobster
𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘻𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘥𝘢 𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘦

A tiny "false crab"—closer to a hermit crab than a lobster—measuring just a few centimeters long. Its most famous feature is its massive, mesh-like compound eyes, which function like underwater mirrors to reflect light and track movement in dim reef shadows. To stay safe from predators, this vibrant reddish-orange creature wedges its body backward into tight coral crevices, leaving only its giant "bug eyes" and long, defensive claws peeking out to watch for food.

Anemonefish eggs
𝘈𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴

A small, typically oblong-shaped, and bright orange to pink when freshly laid, turning into a dull gray or silver as they develop. They are laid in large clutches 100–1,000+ eggs on hard, cleaned rock surfaces near their host anemone, where they remain attached by tiny, adhesive filaments. Eggs start as vibrant orange or pink, signaling they are newly fertilized. As they mature the embryo develops, and the egg turns into a dull brown or gray.

Painted Frogfish
𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘴

Their skin is covered in small, eye-like spots called ocelli that resemble the porous holes of a sponge, allowing them to blend seamlessly into reef environments. Like other frogfish, it is an ambush predator. It uses a modified first dorsal spine, called an illicium, as a "fishing rod" with a lure (esca) at the end to attract small fish and crustaceans. Instead of swimming, these fish often "walk" across the ocean floor using their leg-like pectoral and pelvic fins. This species is primarily found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Red Sea.

Crinoid Snapping Shrimp

These shrimp live in a symbiotic relationship with crinoids (feather stars), often found clinging to the underside or within the arms of the host. Their color is highly variable and typically mimics the host crinoid for camouflage. While the individual in your image is a striking solid white, they can also be found in black, striped, or multicolored patterns depending on their environment.

Emperor angelfish
𝘗𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳

It is a brightly colored marine fish native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, renowned for its drastic color transformation from a juvenile (dark blue with white circles) to an adult (yellow and blue horizontal stripes with a black mask). They inhabit coral reefs and rocky areas, often in caves or crevices, typically at depths of 6 to 60 meters. They are often solitary and can be territorial, making them best suited for large, mature aquariums with plenty of hiding spots.

The feathery, purple-pink fan structures are modified tentacles used to filter plankton and oxygen from the water column. These worms possess primitive photoreceptors on their fans that can detect sudden changes in light, causing them to instantly snap back into their protective tube if a predator approaches. The hidden part of the worm lives inside a tough, flexible tube made of mucus and gathered organic sediment or sand particles.

Spotted Porcelain Crab
𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴

Despite its appearance, it is actually a decapod crustacean closely related to squat lobsters and hermit crabs, recognizable by its long, prominent antennae.
It does not use its large claws to attack prey; instead, it uses specialized, hair-like mouthparts (maxillipeds) to fan the water and filter out plankton
The crab is immune to the stinging nematocysts of the anemone, using the tentacles as a protective shield against predators. In return, the crab helps keep the host clean by feeding on mucus and debris.

Tropical Striped Triplefin
𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘢

This species is instantly recognized by its striking red or reddish-brown body emblazoned with three parallel neon-white or light-blue stripes along the side.
They are tiny (growing to only about 2 to 4 centimeters in length) and highly territorial. They are commonly found perched alertly on hard substrates, reef structures, tunicates, or sponges, watching for passing zooplankton. They are widely distributed across the warm waters of the central Indo-Pacific region.

Kunie's chromodoris
𝘎𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘬𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘪

They are instantly recognizable by their cream-to-yellow body covered in distinct dark purple spots, each encircled by a soft, pale blue or violet ring. The heavily ruffled edge of their mantle features a brilliant, dual-toned border of [vibrant purple and deep blue]. The two prominent, ringed stalks rising from the head are rhinophores. Lined with lamellae to maximize surface area, these highly specialized sensory antennas act as the slug’s underwater nose to detect chemical scents, helping it locate food and track down mates.
