Oliver's squat lobster
A tiny "false crab"โcloser to a hermit crab than a lobsterโmeasuring just a few centimeters long. Its most famous feature is its massive, mesh-like compound eyes, which function like underwater mirrors to reflect light and track movement in dim reef shadows. To stay safe from predators, this vibrant reddish-orange creature wedges its body backward into tight coral crevices, leaving only its giant "bug eyes" and long, defensive claws peeking out to watch for food.
