Today, August 30, the world unites to celebrate and advocate for the gentle giants of our oceans: the magnificent Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus)!

First declared in 2008 at the International Whale Shark Conference in Mexico, International Whale Shark Day is a vital global reminder to protect these endangered filter feeders from human pressures, vessel strikes, and habitat loss.

Here in Sorsogon, this day holds a special place in our hearts. Fernando’s Hotel takes pride in its historic connection to the early beginnings of the Donsol whale-shark interaction program a pioneering effort that helped establish eco-tourism and marine conservation in our province.
