Moving to New York City as a Filipino immigrant taught me how to balance two cultures while staying true to who I am. I carry the values I grew up with โ respect for elders, strong family ties, hospitality, resilience, and finding joy even during difficult times. No matter how busy life in NYC gets, those Filipino qualities always keep me grounded.
At the same time, living in America has helped me grow in new ways. New York pushes you to dream bigger, become independent, and embrace people from all walks of life. Iโve learned to appreciate both cultures equally โ from sharing Filipino food and traditions with friends to fully enjoying the fast-paced energy and opportunities that American culture offers.
Being Filipino in NYC means being proud of where I came from while also embracing where I am now. Itโs about carrying my heritage with pride, working hard for a better future, and realizing that I donโt have to choose between being Filipino and being American โ I can proudly be both.
