Al-Mathaf, Arabic for Museum, is the first and only archeological museum in Gaza, and one of the few in Palestine. Al-Mathaf displays more than 300 ancient artifacts that come from the many pre-modern and ancient eras that the city lived through, with the oldest dating back to 3000 B.C. In an effort to show the world an unusual image of Gaza; that of its rich and magnificent history and immeasurable beauty, more than 300 other ancient artifacts have been hosted by different European museums (in Switzerland, Germany and Sweden) in exhibitions about Gaza’s history. المتحف هو المتحف التاريخي الاول فى غزة و واحد من القليليين في فلسطين. يحتوي المتحف علي اكثر من ٣٠٠ قطعة تعود للحقب التاريخية الكثيرة التي مرت بها المدينة والتي تعتبر الاقدم كونها تعود للعام ٣٠٠٠ قبل الميلاد.
يهدف المتحف الى اظهار غزة بصورة مختلفة امام العالم؛ صورة تاريخها الغني و العظيم و جمالها الذي لا يضاهى، قامت العديد من المتاحف الاوروبية في سويسرا، المانيا و السويد باستضافة اكثر من ٣٠٠ قطعة اثرية من غزة في معارض تروي تاريخ غزة.
