Well, I’m back at Birmingham Airport… and this arrival has considerably less excitement attached to it! In fact, if I’m honest, all I really want right now is my own bed, a decent cup of tea, and a couple of days where nobody asks me where the nearest airport is. 😴✈️

Unfortunately, there’s no rest for the wicked because Amsterdam is calling…

This trip is all about work rather than pleasure, but I’m fairly confident we’ll manage to find a canal, a cocktail, or a nice restaurant in between all the conference centre excitement. It would be rude not to, after all! 😜

The last few weeks have really made me stop and appreciate just how lucky we are. We’ve explored new places, eaten in some fantastic restaurants, discovered a few hidden gems, and revisited some of our old favourites. More importantly, we’ve made some brilliant memories (and consumed a completely reasonable amount of wine… according to us anyway! 🍷😂).

One of my favourite things has been receiving messages from guests saying they’ve added some of the places and activities I’ve shared to their own holiday plans. No pressure, but I really hope you enjoy them as much as we did! I expect full reports back afterwards.

For now, it’s back to reality… well, as much reality as a few days in Amsterdam allows.

If you’re dreaming of your own Algarve adventure, I still have availability until 21st June and a handful of dates left in September. I’m also taking bookings for next year, and judging by how quickly the diary filled up this year especially for July and August, I’d recommend getting in early.

Right, Amsterdam… try not to be too much trouble. 😘✈️

A little throwback to Saturday’s adventure! 🏝️☀️

If you’re looking for a great day out while staying in the Algarve, we can definitely recommend the island-hopping tour from Faro.

For around £40 per person, we spent about 4 hours exploring two beautiful islands in the Ria Formosa Natural Park – Deserta Island and Farol Island – and it was worth every penny. You don’t need to do a tour to see the islands, you can use the water taxis too with the Hop on and off options.

Faro is only around 30 minutes from the apartment and costs approximately €25–€30 in an Uber. There are also regular bus services, making it a great budget-friendly option for a day trip.

The islands sit within the stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected area that became a Natural Park in 1987 and is now recognised as one of Portugal’s most important wetlands. Fun fact – these are the very islands and sandbanks you can often see from the window of the plane when landing at Faro Airport, with their winding lagoons and golden beaches creating one of the Algarve’s most spectacular views from the air.

The boat trip itself was fantastic, with beautiful views across the lagoons and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. It’s amazing how many different experiences you can enjoy within easy reach of Albufeira.

Our first stop was Deserta Island, and its name really says it all! Miles of golden sand, crystal-clear water and a feeling of complete peace and tranquillity. It felt like we’d discovered our own little slice of paradise.

Next, we headed over to Farol Island, home to the iconic lighthouse and a charming collection of whitewashed houses. We stopped for lunch in a lovely little restaurant overlooking the water and honestly, the whole place had a real Caribbean feel to it. Turquoise water, boats bobbing in the harbour, relaxed vibes and not a care in the world. It was hard to believe we were only a short boat ride from Faro!

After our island-hopping adventure, we spent some time exploring Faro itself. A wander around the shops, soaking up the atmosphere of the city and, of course, we couldn’t come home empty-handed. We finally bought a traditional Cataplana pot, so now we’ll have no excuse not to try cooking one of the Algarve’s most famous dishes when we’re back home! 🍲😜

We had such an amazing time and can’t wait to go and do it again so we can explore some of the other islands too!

One of the things we love most about staying here is that there’s always something new to discover. Whether it’s relaxing by the pool, exploring nearby towns and villages, or heading off on adventures like this, there’s never a shortage of ways to make holiday memories.

Safe to say Saturday was another fantastic Algarve adventure. 🇵🇹☀️🏝️

Today kicked off with a 6k run up to the top of the escalator and back. I headed out around 8am… and quickly realised I probably should have gone a bit earlier – it was already heating up!

I may have had to walk a little bit along the way, but I’m not bothered about the pace… I still got it done 💪

There’s something quite special about seeing the old town so quiet – businesses just opening up, streets being washed down after the night before. Definitely a different side to the usual buzz.

Quick pit stop at the top for the obligatory photo 📸, then back home for breakfast and a couple of hours of work… before returning to more important things – pool time.

I’ve also been promised cocktails by one of the other owners… so I’ll be holding him to that 😜🍹

Last couple of days update;

After the owners’ get together… let’s just say the free wine definitely did its job 🍷😜 so it was (unsurprisingly) another slow start the next day!

With Isabella’s holiday crew firmly in charge of the itinerary, it was back to what this place does best… pool days 💦 We headed over to the village pool, I optimistically packed my gym kit… and then proceeded to not use it at all 😂 Neil, however, went for a run (questionable life choice in the Portuguese heat mid-afternoon 🥵), while I embraced the chaos—aka trying to read a book while getting splashed every five minutes by two very happy little girls living their best lives!

After a quick recharge at the apartment, we headed into town with zero plan (my favourite kind of evening). We tried the tapas spot I mentioned—really lovely, although I’ve decided it’s 100% a daytime, people-watching, street-side kind of place next time!

Little miss was absolutely shattered, so we Uber’d home for the grand total of £3.47 🙌 Also worth noting Isabella made us revisit the same shops again… and came away with a fidget spinner and some other “essential” purchase I’ve already forgotten 🤦🏼‍♀️

Rock and roll lifestyle continued… lights out by 10pm 😂

Today followed a similar “go with the flow” vibe… although I’m starting to get itchy feet and feel the need for a little adventure to balance out all this relaxing! I am loving Isabella making friends, but need to do more than the pool!

After a solid amount of procrastinating about whether I was going to run, gym or do absolutely nothing… Isabella made the executive decision: pancakes at Praia da Oura 🥞

Naturally, after insisting on pancakes… she ordered a ham & cheese toastie… then a massive waffle with cream and ice cream 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 Living her best life while we sat there with a chicken wrap, coffee and water like absolute amateurs!

Quick shop run for “essentials” and back to the apartment, where guilt finally kicked in… so I actually made it to the gym 💪 (miracles do happen). Neil and Isabella? Straight back to the pool and her ever-growing friendship group—honestly, this place is a dream for kids.

Post-gym, I joined them—Isabella in full holiday mode, Neil one step away from snoring on a lounger… so obviously the only sensible option was a glass of wine and my book again 🍷📖

A few hours later, back to the apartment for a BBQ—Neil fully in his element “man make fire” mode 🔥 very proud of himself I might add 😂 Dinner was spot on, and even better… dishwasher on, zero washing up 🙌 and now we’re rounded off the evening watching crap UK TV like we never left home 📺

And this is exactly why we love it here…
A beautiful, safe, family-friendly complex where the kids make instant friends, the pools keep everyone happy, and you can be as active (or inactive 😅) as you like.

If you’re looking for somewhere that gives you that mix of relaxation, fun and easy family living… you might have just found it 😉

What did we get up to yesterday…

It was definitely a low-key day — not one for big adventures, but a really lovely one all the same.

The weather was beautiful and sunny, if a little breezy. Isabella had already decided we were going to the pool to see her friend… so naturally, that’s exactly what we did! She spent a happy couple of hours swimming and playing, which always makes life that bit easier.

Lunch was at the onsite restaurant — nothing fancy, just an omelette with salad and a ham & cheese toastie… simple but really tasty.

Later on, we decided to eat at home, so we took a walk down to Pingo Doce and picked up a roast chicken, some rice, and fresh bread for later — easy and perfect.

At around 4ish , we headed over to Casa Azul (the Blue House) for an owners’ get-together. It was so nice to catch up with familiar faces and meet some new ones too. Isabella’s friend and her parents joined us there, which of course meant… back in the pool she went!

Neil and I made the most of the complimentary food and drinks, kindly provided by the Clube Albufeira Garden Village - Apartamentos Turisticos although I’ll admit it may have been slightly more drinks than food for us 😬

The night didn’t end there… we headed home and invited Sandra and Derek (who I mentioned last week) back with us after having such a great time together earlier. I somehow managed to rustle up enough food for everyone, and the evening carried on in the best way.

Isabella was so well behaved all day — we were incredibly proud of her, and I think a little treat is definitely in order today!

Sandra and Derek are building their dream home on the Clube, and I’m fairly sure Derek is slowly coming round to the idea that their rooftop terrace will actually be our rooftop terrace when it’s finished… or maybe I’m just claiming squatters’ rights already 😂😂

Photos are a little sparse from yesterday, but the highlights were definitely the great company, the owners’ get-together, and Isabella making us so proud.
