Beaches on the Lisbon Coast
The abundant sunshine, mild temperatures and long stretches of sand make Lisbon one of Europe's most blessed cities. It's the only European capital facing the sea, just minutes from the sand, and with a varied and beautiful coastline nearby (most of it flying the Blue Flag, meaning cleanliness and water quality).
You can head west to the resort towns of Cascais and Estoril, or go south to the Caparica coast, but you'll always find plenty of sand for yourself.
Just remember that this is the Atlantic, not the Mediterranean, so water temperatures are often just around 15 to 20C degrees (60-68F), inviting long swims only on the hotter summer days. This is however, one of Europe's major surfing destinations.
The most accessible beaches for tourists are those of Cascais and Estoril, reached by train from Cais do Sodré in the center of Lisbon.

BICA
Across from Bairro Alto, by the landmark Bica funicular, is a concentration of bars that attracts large crowds on weekends. The most popular spots are the Estrela da Bica restaurant and O Alemão da Bica.

This enormous coastline south of Lisbon is made up of a group of beaches, each with its own feel. Nothing separates them except for imaginary lines, with wooden walkways taking you down its 30 kilometers, as does a tourist train during the summer.
The most crowded beach is by Costa da Caparica town. Move south and you'll find more seclusion and better beach bars.
Two favorites are Praia da Morena and Praia da Sereia, with young crowds filling their bars to see and be seen.
The further you go the less crowded it gets, with Fonte da Telha being the favorite among those who don't like to wear anything.
That's also a popular beach for kite and windsurfing, while Beach 19 before that is the unofficial gay beach.
Further south is Meco, popular with young crowds and nudists.
Unlike Cascais and Estoril west of Lisbon, this coast south of the city is not an international resort with grand hotels. It's mostly frequented by locals in the summer, and accommodation is mostly two stars.

DOCAS DE SANTO AMARO
It may be a bit touristy, but the Santo Amaro dock (or simply “the docks”) also attracts many locals, for the pizzas at Capricciosa or for ice cream at Artisani or UAU. The terraces facing the marina and 25 de Abril Bridge create the perfect cosmopolitan spot for the afternoon or night.

Principe Real is currently the hottest neighborhood in Lisbon. It’s where more and more independent boutiques are opening, and where you find the monumental Embaixada concept store. It also has some of the trendiest spots for a drink or meal at any time of the day, such as the Lost In terrace, O Prego da Peixaria, A Cevicheria and Zero Zero, or the cafés and restaurants in and around Praça das Flores. At night, the best cocktails are at Cinco Lounge.

Terraços do Carmo
These terraces, previously occupied by police barracks, are part of Chiado’s renovation plan, projected by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira after the great 1988 fire in the neighborhood.
They were designed to become a public recreational space, offering a beautiful view of Rossio Square and the castle. They’re found next to two historical monuments (the Santa Justa Elevator and the ruins of Carmo Convent), and there's a cafe with outdoor seating.

New restaurant in Lisbon, Accua di Fusion
This former warehouse by the Cais do Sodré station is a three-in-one: a restaurant with outdoor seating and a bar downstairs, and a lounge upstairs.
Looking out to the river, the restaurant fuses Italian and Brazilian cuisine and several other flavors.

Two former owners of brasseries in Paris fell in love with Lisbon and opened this bistro in an historic building. Comptoir Parisian, It’s found on one of the city’s most picturesque streets, and has a terrace facing the park in Belém.
The interior has a “modern bistro” décor, while the terrace, with its checkered tablecloths, has a more relaxed atmosphere.
