IN LISBON AT THIS SAME DAY in 1896 was born José Leitão de Barros. He was a painter, a cinema director and playwright, known for ‘Camões’ (1946), ‘Ala-Arriba!’ (1942), ‘As pupilas do Senhor Reitor’ (1935) and ‘Maria do Mar’(1930) among several others. He was married to Helena Roque Gameiro. He died on June 29, 1967 in Lisbon.
