Soon, the cleaning will begin. First, sorting the wood, plastic, and iron. Then, breaking down the interior walls and hauling away all the rubble in trucks and containers. It feels like the start of something new.

The desk. My office. The place where my brain brings together my thoughts, organises my life, searches for ideas, and writes important and less important emails. Sometimes the door is open, the sun gently warming my back- another small pleasure in this happy place.

I didn’t fully realise at first how big the news was last week (I waited for so long)… but here it is: the final approval from the Câmara to start building the main house!

Now let's enjoy end-of-year celebrations with family and friends, and then oh yeah I am ready for the next step : meeting contractors, pitching the project, and starting the construction of my home as soon as possible.

The other day I was in the kitchen thinking about how everything was so well thought out! I had to smile… of course it is — I designed the layout myself.

Everything has its proper place in such a compact area, yet you can barely see any appliances: the fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, induction hob, heat accumulator, and even all the everyday devices hidden under the stairs.

I also love the rounded seating corner — it makes it so easy to move around.

I was a bit worried about the height, but in the end it’s really pleasant to chop, cook, and clean at 95 cm.

I’m so very happy and proud. The day has finally arrived; I’m living in the small house and the architectural project for the ruin has been approved !

Both are the result of my ideas, my desires and needs, my vision, my inspiration and feeling, and they caused me a lot of headaches haha.

The technical project is underway, then I will be able to request quotes and make the right choices. Step by step.

This week is about doing all the countertops in microciment. Once this is done, I can put the sinks and connect the water. Is it nearly done? I think so.

August is over, everyone is back at work, and the cabinets are installed ! Today and tomorrow, they are cleaning and coating the mosaic floors, they will look amazing. Last bit is the microciment on the countertops, and do some electrical and plumbing work. I hope this is it :-)

When you think that the work is finished, you realise that there are still details to think through, finishing touches that take time, mistakes to rectify, and finding the right person to do it... in August… the month of holidays when they finally take a break. Well, I think I’ll be taking one too ;-) It’ll give me a chance to get my full mojo back for the home stretch, and most important spending time with friends and family !

This view will still be there and I will enjoy every minute of it.

This was my latest headache. Instead of doing, as any sensible person would do, something simple, quick and slick, i.e. a false ceiling, no, I had the stubborn idea of having a ceiling similar to what was done in the old days, in cane and wooden beams (and painted!). Well, it was a complicated mission.

This process made me realize, once again, that I have a great tendency to complicate my choices, and with a certain tenacity... I guess I place more importance on aesthetics & authenticity than easiness. Because in the end, a house renovation is for many, many years, it’s my sort of legacy. I hope that you will like the result.

Everything was organised and programmed, but suddenly the power went out. An administration process was forgotten and they simply cut the juice. You can imagine the consequences... adding all kinds of annoying obstacles on the way. Let’s say the universe wasn’t quite with me.

What you see in the photo hasn’t moved in 2 weeks. All will be back on track soon. I just had to reschedule everything (love it). In the end, I am sure it was for good reasons and worth it.

Today is a good day! I’ve just received the news that my project needs minor modifications to be approved. So after the little house (which still isn’t finished…), and after the summer, it will be time to start this one, my home, facing the exceptional open view with the sea in the distance.
