Hydrangeas in Bloom – When to See Them
If there’s one flower that defines the Azores, it’s the hydrangea. These iconic blue and purple blossoms line roads, wrap around volcanic craters, and spill over green hills, creating a dreamlike landscape.
🪻 May–June – The first hydrangeas start to bloom, adding soft hints of color to the roadsides.
🪻 June–July – Peak season! The islands explode with vibrant blue and purple hydrangea walls. This is the best time to see them in full bloom.
🪻 August: Hydrangeas begin to fade, making way for Cana Roca, another Flores iconic flower, which adds a golden touch to the landscapes.
Whether you're hiking, driving, or just admiring the view, the Azores’ hydrangeas and Cana Roca flowers turn every corner into a postcard-worthy scene.
