One of Bucharest's best escapes isn't outside the city by hours. It's just 30 kilometres away.
Lake Snagov takes you from the city to water, forest and quiet surroundings in less than an hour. Part of the lake is a protected natural area, home to 47 protected species, including otters, while white and yellow water lilies grow along its shores.
But this isn't a place you simply come to look at. Spend a few hours on the water by boat, kayak or SUP, walk through the surrounding forest, or make your way to Snagov Monastery. Set on a small island, the centuries-old monastery is one of the area's most distinctive landmarks, with its red-brick church and medieval character adding another layer to a day spent in nature.
And the best part? You can do all of this and still be back in Bucharest in time for dinner.
