A first look at our Baraza Dining Set, where two distinct African craft traditions come together in one beautiful piece.

Hand-carved woodwork inspired by the intricate carving techniques of the Swahili Coast is paired with bold, handwoven Bogolan fabric from Mali, creating a dining set rich in texture, heritage and soul.

We love finding ways to bring traditional African craft into spaces that feel fresh and contemporary.

This rug was created using traditional weaving techniques, but the design takes a more modern direction, playing with bold geometry, rich colour and abstract forms. There’s something especially beautiful about seeing a craft that has been practiced for generations continue to evolve through the hands of today’s makers.

That idea sits at the heart of Timbuktoo Living. We’re drawn to pieces that carry a sense of where they come from while still feeling completely at home in the way we live now. Pieces with texture, story and soul that make a room feel collected rather than simply decorated.

Available at Timbuktoo Living.

People often ask us how Timbuktoo Living began.

For years, Joel and I traveled simply because we loved discovering new places. Somewhere along the way, our trips started looking a little different. Instead of coming home with souvenirs, we came home with furniture strapped to the the car, baskets squeezed into every empty space, pottery wrapped in our clothes, and artwork we somehow convinced ourselves would fit in our luggage.

What we treasured most, though, weren’t the pieces. They were the people behind them. We spent time in family workshops, wandered through local markets, listened to artisans tell us about techniques that had been passed down for generations, and left with friendships that stayed with us long after the trip was over.

Our home slowly became a collection of those experiences. Every object reminded us of somewhere we’d been, someone we’d met, or a story we never wanted to forget.

When friends came over, they didn’t ask where we bought our furniture. They asked where they could find pieces that felt like this. Pieces that made a home feel lived in instead of decorated.

That was the beginning of Timbuktoo Living.

Today, we’re still doing exactly what we’ve always loved doing. We travel across Africa, meet extraordinary makers, and bring home craftsmanship that deserves to be celebrated. Our hope is that every piece you take home becomes part of your own story and helps you create a space that feels deeply personal.

Because that’s what Timbuktoo Living has always been about. Not filling homes with beautiful things, but helping people create homes that reflect the lives they’re living.

Our Soul Collection was created for those who believe that wellbeing begins in the spaces we inhabit. Rooted in the quiet power of ritual, each candle is designed to encourage simple daily practices that gently elevate the frequency of your home through aromatherapy, intention, and moments of presence.

Every candle is handcrafted using hand-poured soy wax, housed in hand-blown glass, infused with pure essential oils, and finished with ethically sourced crystals selected to complement each fragrance and ritual.

This is the Timbuktoo Living vibe. Beautiful objects with purpose and simple rituals become part of the rhythm of everyday life. Light a candle while you read, prepare dinner, meditate, welcome guests, or simply pause for a few quiet minutes. Over time, these small moments become the feeling your home is known for.
