Taking a walk turned into a thrill of a lifetime with the encounter of ice needles. They grew on barb wire, fence posts, rocks, icicles and made pine trees look like cactus. Unexpected treasures.

It happens every Spring, or nearly. Snow subdued by sunshine. Ice melts, creeks rise. Newborn calves bawl, lambs bleat and we humans believe that maybe this is it. Spring, really. Even when we know better. Of course it's not Spring, not even by the calendar. It likely won't be Spring in April when it snows. And May when hummingbirds lower their metabolism to survive ty the white surprise of it. Maybe even in June, just about when apple blossoms appear. But we're replenished by the newborn mountain goats scaling down shale with their heard. Soon we'll see soft dotted fur on fawns. Daffodils will come on, along with crocuses. Yet, we need to wait awhile longer for the real thing, thankful that we got the taste and breath of it.

Sure, chill winds blow with snow and morning and evenings are darker longer and sooner, but consider the skies with wonder. And no thunder. Consider evergreen, yes word in winter. Consider some ice like dew and other ice miraculous jewels. Maybe the livestock is challenged to rummage for roughage and only the hardiest birds stay. But even they know, this is the other side of summer. Meanwhile there's a fly in my Kombachu, just like summer.

Ah Autumn! Orange pumpkins, red apples, fiery leaves....Wait, snow!?!? So, a poem....

White is not an autumn color.
And Old Man Winter not a welcome feller.
We hardly had summer. Now hardly fall.
What are we to make of it all?
Climate change and global warming.
This change in temps is very harming.

A Northwestern Energy employee sighted a burnt pole and with the rain today may have caused a power outage for most of the town. Instead a NWE crew installed a new pole with new more modern equipment. It took less than 1 1/2 hour and only a few homes and businesses were without power. These fellows showed teamwork at its finest as they performed their high wire work.
Thanks for covering our backs Northwestern Energy and doing your amazing job.

Northwestern Energy made a fix in a power pole that was noticed last week to be burnt. A temporary power outage that lasted less than 1 1/2 hours and for very few homes. Thank you for taking care of our town and doing the crazy work you do.

An enduring winter-into-May turned next into a sodden spring which created a green lush summer. So prevailing was the rainy season it pretty much curtailed the gardening season. Beans, peas, tomatoes — nearly everything above ground lacked sun. Some people bemoaned the creamed peas and potatoes their mommas made, but farmers were happy with extraordinary hay crops that times with sunny days so it could be harvested.

The Montana BBQ Cookoff in Absarokee did not disappoint crowds who savored great food, danced to great bands and enjoyed a mostly rain-free day. Thousands swelled the tiny town's main street for the 17th straight year that raises money for the community. Hundreds of repeat visitors. "Wouldn't miss it," was heard frequently along with "see ya next year!"
