Welcome Prudence, our new dog, to the Indigo Pack!

Prue is absolutely the right dog at the wrong time. Who adopts a dog in the middle of busy season? 🙋‍♀️ She was found as a stray in Texas and then transported to Virginia to prevent being euthanized. We met her and fell in love pretty instantly. She’s probably about 2 years old, about 20 pounds, has already had puppies, and given her original location, they suspect she’s a mixed breed of Chihuahua and a herding dog (Border collie? Heeler? Make your guess in the comments!) I’m convinced she’s made of sugar because she is so gentle and sweet. Prue is super smart, loves playing in the garden (especially hunting grasshoppers), exploring the woods, and trying new treats. Her little personality is really coming out and we can’t wait for you to meet her one day soon too.

Thanks to our recent guests who have been incredibly welcoming and patient with her (and us) as she adjusts. Learning to walk on a leash, hang out in a crate, share your new home, and not squeak the loudest toy at 6:30 am is hard stuff when you’re young! It was so fun to watch her snuggle with guests last weekend and share stick chewing responsibilities with the dogs. Once we know more about her, we’ll share a blog of her travel recs to go alongside Marietta’s on the website. Drop a comment with your dog’s name below so we can let her know who her friends are❤️

Start your morning with locally roasted coffee in bed, a farm-to-fork breakfast, and plenty of fresh mountain air. Go for a hike and spend your afternoon touring the incredible tasting rooms. If it can be fermented, fried, sandwiched, or pizza-ed, we’re doing it here.

Wind down at the end of the night with a board game, a new book, a drink by the fire pit, or stargazing. I mean, you can also stream your fave show with the windows open (we call this indoor camping). Our sweet, national park-inspired rooms accommodate two adults and come stocked with the essential items for a luxurious stay. It’s a perfect, cozy getaway for you and your pup.

Fall is the best time of year to hit the trails! With so much to see and do, these are our favorite short hikes with big payoffs:

🥾Rockfish Valley Trails– Plenty of short trails with mountain views, creek access, and great birding.
🥾Greenstone Overlook– An easy one mile loop with gorgeous sunset views off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
🥾The Cedar Cliffs Main Trail – About two miles there and back, fairly easy walking along a ridgeline with a scenic overlook.
🥾Humpback Rocks – Less than two strenuous miles, but delivers an amazing sunrise or sunset view at the scenic overlook.
🥾Dripping Rock South– A colorful walk in the woods with a scenic overlook after about a 15 min walk.

We’ve never done this before but this time, it just felt right.

Staycation, an Emmy Award-winning show, visits some of the most popular travel destinations on the planet and showcases the very best vacation rentals and the people who own and run them… and we are so honored to be one of them!

The crew came out last May (during a miserable heat wave) to interview us. Our episode will air this October, reaching over 5 million viewers via CBS, Apple TV, Prime, the Destination Channel, and more.

As you may know, our hosting season runs from Valentine’s Day to Thanksgiving Day each year. We typically open our reservation books for the upcoming season each winter, but given the exposure our segment will bring to The Indigo House, we’re opening the reservation calendar early for you🎉
