We provide meals with lodging in our country home while sharing life, stories, and history with our guests. The lodge was built in the late 1930s and early 1940s as my great-grandparents' retirement home. During construction, their friends and the folks that Grandpa Ernie and Grandma Florence had met while Grandpa was the caretaker at Jergen's Lodge (across the river from Foster Bar) started talki

ng about coming for extended vacations in the fall when the half-pounders were running. Jergens and Bill Keck had drilled the first oil wells on Signal Hill in California and financed the movie production studios' move to what is now Hollywood. My great-grandparents didn't have that kind of money so they knew that, if their friends were going to come, they were going to have to charge them. That is the story of how Illahe Lodge started. Initially called "Schneider's Lodge", the name was changed to Illahe Lodge when my grandparents and father bought the lodge from my great-grandparents. When people stay at Illahe Lodge, they are guests in our family's home. Illahe Lodge is our home, not "Animal House." We provide meals, our standard beverages, free refills, and lodging. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages, if desired. (We don't sell or serve alcohol.) We allow smoking (to***co only and no e-cigarettes) in designated areas outdoors. (Please bring your own, if that is desired as we don't sell to***co products.) Questions or want additional information? Our guests left today, but not before giving me a copy of "Illahe" by Kay Atwood, "Rogue River Feud" by Zane Grey, and the 2003 calendar that the Agness/Illahe Volunteer Fire Department sold as a fundraiser following the Biscuit Fire.

We have tonight and tomorrow night off. Tim will be here on Tuesday night with our first downriver float trip of the fall. We have a good fall, but one that is manageable for me while I'm also the caregiver for my father who, at 90, is experiencing the challenges that come with aging.

Dan - the local handyman - came up today to help me replace a section of the waterline for the irrigation system. The irrigation line goes under the road. The old line was buried about 6" deep which wasn't deep enough. Heavy equipment, fire traffic, and pickups going over the line had flattened the pipe in one spot. The pipe went under the old barn and may have crushed the pipe as well. Whatever the cause, the irrigation system had stopped running sprinklers and that needed to change. So, Dan finished digging up the old line. (I'd started digging the line up a few days ago.) Then, I helped him run the new line from behind the barn to the lower lawn. The new waterline has far more protection than the old one did. It goes through a metal pipe for part of its length. (The old one did not.) The pipe is more than double the depth of the old line. We also put sand and small gravel around the line before covering it with road gravel. The sprinklers are working again and we have very good pressure. Hopefully, the new waterline will hold up with any heavy traffic that needs to go over it.

September 2, 2026. The rain has arrived. When I emptied the rain gauge this morning, we'd received 23/100ths of an inch with the storm so far. If you fish, you know what that means... It's show time!
