Introducing Hitchcock Equine Emergency!
I’m excited to introduce Hitchcock Equine Emergency, a dedicated emergency-only ambulatory equine veterinary service serving Aiken, South Carolina!
I’m Dr. Kenne Lott, a CSRA native and lifelong equestrian. After earning my DVM from the University of Georgia and completing a rotating internship at Rhinebeck Equine in New York, I’m excited to bring my passion for emergency care to the Aiken community.
What is an emergency-only practice?
Hitchcock Equine Emergency focuses exclusively on urgent and emergency veterinary care, including colic, lacerations, eye injuries, and other unexpected medical concerns when they arise.
Hitchcock Equine Emergency is designed to augment existing veterinary services, not replace them. We recognize the importance of the relationship between you and your primary veterinarian, and we want to help protect that relationship by providing additional emergency coverage when your regular vet may be unavailable.
By focusing exclusively on emergencies, our goal is to help ease the burden of after-hours and on-call responsibilities for local veterinarians while ensuring horses and their owners have access to emergency care.
Why is it important to have options for emergencies in equine medicine?
Only 5.8% of veterinary graduates choose to purse a career in Equine Medicine- and even fewer graduates stay in equine medicine long term, with many vets citing 24/7 on call responsibilities as a reason for their departure. Horse owners frequently feel the impact of these losses when it becomes difficult to find an experienced veterinarian to see emergencies after hours. Solo practitioners are common in equine medicine, but even the most dedicated vets need time to rest and recharge.
Whether you’re a horse owner looking for emergency resources or a fellow veterinary professional interested in collaborative emergency coverage, I look forward to becoming part of this wonderful equine community!
